I just busted out of the 5k WSOP event and it was one of those events that anytime I zigged I should have zagged. Tomorrow is the ladies event and with the way it’s gone so far maybe I should play it. Which brings me to a controversial topic, the Women’s poker hall of fame. I was invited to last night’s induction ceremony and I would have gone but got distracted with other plans and by the time I realized, it was too late. Now before I go off on a bit of a rant I would like to be clear that I believe the current members and new inductees are worthy of the honor, but how can you leave out the number one women’s player of all time? That’s right Kathy Liebert is not in Women’s Poker Hall of Fame. I was totally shocked to find this out.

In order to be considered for nomination to the WiPHoF candidates must be an active player or industry leader for at least 15 years (January 1994 to present, is the minimum amount of time.). The nominee also must have contributed to the world of poker in some significant way. This person can qualify by either winning major poker tournaments, or by making significant contributions to the industry of poker. The contender must be a proponent of women’s poker. Even if she does not play in women’s events, she must support them. Now let’s see Kathy has been cashing in events for over 15 years, and playing longer than that, has well over 5.5 million dollars in tournament winnings 220 cashes and 21 titles, which is so far ahead of any of the other candidates or members that it is truly incredible. So what do I make of all this, I’m really not sure. I have gotten to know Kathy over the last several years and know her to be a decent person and a great player. Maybe there are politics going on here I know nothing about and I am just lumbering through this like a bull in a china shop, but frankly I don’t get it. In my humble opinion, the nominating group should get together and make a special election of Kathy asap, because until that happens it seriously undermines the validity and legitimacy of the group.
