Borgata Day #1

Day 1 of The Borgata Winter Open is over and all in all it was a very decent day for me. Before I get to that I just wanted spend a second talking about Sunday’s Full Tilt events. I played a fair number of events yesterday and went deep in several of them. I had a large number of railbirds who were wonderfully supportive. I wanted to thank those of you who came by and said hello and offered good wishes.

The first few levels today at the Borgata’s main event, which attracted a total of 766 players at $3,500 each, went slowly for me, I felt like I was just hanging around. I then won a medium pot with AA and went from 29k (starting stack 30k) to 40k, then the next hand I call a 3 big blind raise on the button with Q 10 of diamonds after the cut-off calls, and then the blinds then hop in as well. The flop comes A K 7, all diamonds. The original raiser bets about 80% of the pot and after taking sometime to act I raise about 40% of the pot, trying to appear weak. The other players fold, and the initial raiser, re-raises me for 90% of his remaining stack. I then fold, no just kidding, I, of course put the rest in, and he calls, tabling AK off. I dodge an ace or king and don’t get the pretty jack of diamonds for the royal, but almost get a full double up. I then won a few more decent pots before losing a set to a flush, but it wasn’t a huge pot and finished the day with 66,600 chips. That’s about 1/3 above average, although sort of an ominous number.

I’m off to sleep, dreaming of a good day tomorrow and thinking about my wonderful wife Ashley and our newest family member Paxton the German Shepherd.
