One For The Road?

They say that the guy who invented money was smart but that the guy who invented chips was a genius.

That makes the guy who dreamt up the virtual chips deal a bit of a brain but hes not universally popular with gamblers. I dont drink myself but Im told by some guys who like a gallon or two that this guy is a very bad guy indeed.

They seem to be of the opinion if he was going to complicate their lives by enabling them to gamble when absolutely polluted without any chance of security saving them from themselves he could at least have invented a computer which would turn itself off when alcohol fumes were above a critical level(I ve heard 4 times the drink driving limit put forward as quite a sensible cut off point).

Most people would agree that adopting a rule whereby you dont drink and play poker sounds eminently sensible and it does. That should be end of discussion but its just not true in all cases. Certainly guys who already play very aggressively would be much better off without having a few scoops during the dinner break but how about guys who play too tight because they dont have the balls to back their judgement?

Surely half a gallon of the black stuff has to help. Over the years I’ve played with several guys who were much tougher t oplay against after dinner and a bottle of plonk than they were in the afternoon. On the plus side they were much more fun when half in the bag!

Trying to work out which category you fit into and what the dosage should be to ensure optimum performance(the range is somewhere between absolutely nothing and quite a bit!) is pretty complicated especially if youve started drinking before you do the calculation so if you like to gamble whilst under the influence sports betting(preferably for modest stakes) should be considered as an alternative to playing poker. The drunker you are the better a choice this is for sure.On the negative side in the long run youll just have to pay the vig.

On the plus side as long as you dont do anything too stupid its great fun and not being able to think clearly is no disadvantage whatsover. In the words of Irish player Rory Liffey “Drinking and betting on horses is no problem. The horse doesn’t know you’re pissed!”
