Running, Railing, and Returning to PLO

World’s best blogger? Er, not quite!

So it’s been about three months since my last blog entry. Apologies! Once again, my life is filled with change, and 2011 has seen some of the biggest changes in my life for a while.

I finished my last blog entry with the idea that I need to do something for charity. I finally decided what it was! I’ve been enjoying going to the gym – specifically, running – for the last few months, and knew I could get a spot on the Juvenile Diabetes research team to run the London Marathon.

So I’ve been training relentlessly for the last 3 months. I gave up cigs at the beginning of the year, and booze in mid-february! The marathon is in 6 days. I’m a diabetic myself, so both training and the actual marathon running itself are incredibly tough. It would be very much appreciated if you were to consider sponsoring me – if you know anyone that’s diabetic, or simply want to help contribute to society, please follow the link below.

Alternately, you can transfer money on both stars and full tilt to my housemate gavz101 (same on both sites), and he will donate on your behalf – make sure to send me an e-mail, [email protected] – so that we know who the money is from and what your screenname is. Also please let me know whether you’d prefer to be anonymous or not.

Here is the link.

As you can see, I’ve raised over £5k ~ $8.3k! Which I’d say is pretty damn braggable.

In honour of all those who’ve donated anonymously, this excerpt from Curb Your Enthusiasm is hilarious.

In other news, I met a girl and have been seeing her for the last 3 months. Without going into too much detail, this girl is only 19 – (I’m 26) – meaning she was born in the freaking 90s! Bit of a culture shock for both of us – she didn’t even realize beverly hills 90210 was a remake! It’s going pretty well, though. I’m not normally one for relationships, a bit of a commitmentphobe – but not with this girl :)

I have also returned to poker! Online I’ve played 33k hands of cash, winning $5k, mostly @ $0.50/1 PLO, at a winrate of 16 bb/100, not even running that far above expectation. Taking time off has certainly helped me plug some mental leaks, and sitting next to my housemate, gavz101, watching him play, and discussing hands and strategy with him, has been incredible.

Next up is San Remo – a friend is coming to visit, so I won’t be around for the main, unfortunately. After that, I’ve got May and most of June to grind before I go to Glastonbury (yay!) and then hopefully to Vegas for the World Series main event. Fun times!

Lastly, I wanna give some shoutouts. Sitting next to gav, watching him play 6 tables heads-up $100/200 vs isildur was absolutely incredible. Two nights in a row he absolutely destroyed him – running incredibly hot, by all accounts, but also playing extremely well.

My good friend Ben Wilinofsky – known online as NeverScaredB – won EPT Berlin yesterday, as well! This was his first ever live cash, ending his legendarily empty hendon mob page. He was heads-up versus another friend, Max Heinzelmann – known online as HotkarlMC. They are also good friends. I was railing Ben from the day 2, when he almost made the money. It was an incredible experience to watch him, and I was so very happy to see him win.

Michael Piper has been playing PLO for a living both online and live for five years. He posts online under the screenname “wazz".
