Number 12?by Phil Hellmuth | Published: Jun 18, '07 |
Another final table…or not?
Well, I did it, sort of. The WSOP decided to make the ESPN final table ten handed. Gee, I wonder if that had anything to do with me being there, and me being a bit short stacked? I don't mind playing until nine or ending the day at ten, as ESPN is great for me, but I would also like to have played the $5,000 buy-in heads up, if I didn't make it the final nine. If I can make the final nine, then I will tie TJ Cloutier with 39 final tables, another record tied or broken!!!! Imagine the possibilities: 60 cashes (record), 12 wins (record), 39 final tables (tied for record)!!! I'm making my man Greg pierson fly in, just in case I win, as the bracelet is his. Greg is the CEO of Iovation, and I'm sure he'll miss more than a few meetings, but he'll be great energy for me.
I have $213,000, with the blinds at $8,000-$16,000 and a $2,000 a man ante-the average stack is $480,000. I fought as hard as I've fought in years just to make it this far. Even though I was short stacked, I was never all-in all day long. I basically sat there like a lump on a log folding hand after hand. Occasionally, I would win a pot and keep myself at the status quo. I was pretty card dead all day long, but I worked some Phil Hellmuth magic to make it this far!! I was lucky one hand, when I picked up A-K, A-8 moved all-in, I called and won; but the guy right behind me had his king exposed face up, and he would have had K-K and busted me. Saved by a misdeal!!! I'm thinking that if Allan Cunningham can win with a short stack (he won number five the other day), then why can't I? If Daniel Chen can win two bracelets last year, then why can't I? I'm ready to make more history!!!
