Well, I've dropped my classes. Well, not technically. I'm going to stop going and drop them by the March 26th deadline. That way I can still go to sporting events and stuff for free until then :) I woke up this morning and went to my one Friday class. Afterwards, something told me that I should get the hell out of engineering. It makes sense, I guess, and maybe it's something I should've done before the semester started. I did very poorly on my first exam in two classes and pretty sure I did badly on one that we hadn't been returned yet in Differential Equations. It wasn't for a lack of trying, really. I did not miss a class over the 7 weeks I spent in the curriculum. The problem for me and some of the other students is that we probably relied to heavily on solutions manuals of homework problems and never quite absorbed the material. Thus, I did poorly on the exams. I plan on switching to a business major and returning to class in the latter part of the summer of the fall of 2008. It will only set me back two semesters, I think. Being an eternal optimist, I'm trying to draw from the positives of the time I spent in engineering. I like to think that some of the skills I learned there got my brain thinking in a way that has made my career a success in poker. You just have to think that way. I got some fantastic advice and support from my parents (something I'm accustomed to), and I really do think this is the best decision since I never had any intention of using my CE degree, and I'm solely going back to college to prove to myself that I still have what it takes to get a degree. The business degree should be a breeze when I do start back in 5 or 6 months. Until then, I don't have too many plans. Maybe I'll try achieve some of the things from my "Ten Things" post. I'll also continue to try to get in better and better shape. I'll almost certainly go to Vegas for the extent of the Five Star series in April.
This afternoon around 2 p.m. I was talking to Jon Little on AIM and he informed me that the LAPC starts tomorrow. I booked a 6:20 p.m. flight, and now I'm sitting in the BHM airport. I fly to the ever-busy O'Hare airport in Chicago then arrive in LA around 12:30 a.m. Funny life. The tournament starts at 3:30 p.m. PST tomorrow, I think. I'm very amped about playing. I should be back in Alabama next week. Updates to come.
