I just got back into Tuscaloosa after a fun weekend in Birmingham. Final exams begin for me with Marketing 300 tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. I have an 8 a.m. final Tuesday, a 7 p.m. final Tuesday, and a 3:30 p.m. final Wednesday. Then, the semester will be over yesssssss! I'm very proud of myself for knocking out two semesters in the last 9 months. It's hard to believe I've already been back in Tuscaloosa that long. Again, I'll have to take one class this summer and then a full slate of classes in the Fall of 2009 and Spring of 2010 before graduating in May 2010. That will be the plan unless the state of poker changes such that I feel like I have to further delay school because business is so profitable. Obv that would mean the economy rebounding and poker laws changing in the next few months. I don't see that happening.
This weekend was great. Every May in Birmingham there's a really cool festival called the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil. I haven't missed it in years, and it's always a drunken fest with good music that everyone who is anyone attends. My buddy Kaleb and I got there for the opening on Friday around 4 p.m. We caught an interesting cast Saving Abel, Shinedown, LL Cool J, Jason Mraz and finally 311. I don't remember much from like the middle of LL Cool J's set and later. I do remember getting really pissed off at how bad Shinedown was live. I'm a big metal fan and Shinedown is normally pretty hard, but they didn't rock at all. They also talk, talk, talked on the mic to the crowd about dumb stuff which is my pet peeve at rock shows. Just play music, I think. They could have played like 3 more songs in that time. After the show we went down to the Lakeview district to one of my favorite spots, Nana Funks. The place absolutely never disappoints. We cabbed it outta there around 3:30 a.m. On Saturday, tornado warnings, me being hungover and a subpar early lineup card resulted in my not getting to the festival until like 8:45. I was there in time to catch All American Rejects, who were ok, and then festival headliner Snoop Dog. That was a fun experience. My buddies Ryan, Brad and I headed down to Innisfree in Birmingham and then of course all roads lead next door to Nana Funks. All in all it was a really good time and it was nice to sort of celebrate my WPT final table with my hometown friends.
I'ma take a nap for a couple hours then begin studying. I'll follow with recaps of Days 2, 4, 5 and 6 of the WPT Championship.
