Blah. The whole day went pretty shitty, and I'm out of the $40,000 event in the 9th hour around 110th of the 201 entrants. Early on I lost a pot to a 20-something Frenchman named Nicholas Levi. He raised the cutoff to 1200, I called QTcc on the button, Brian Townsend called in the BB. Flop Ts3s3x. Checked to Levi who bet 2300, I raised to 7000 Levi called. Turn Q. Check-Check. River 3. Levi led 9300, I called and was shown 43cc for quads. Later, I ran a big bluff that was picked off by Huck Seed. Doyle raised to 2000, Levi called, I called in the CO with A8hh, Huck called. Flop QT6r one heart. Checked to me I bet 5500, Huck quickcalled others folded. Turn T. I bet 11500 Huck quickcalled. River 5. I was certain Huck had a Q and thought it'd be very difficult for him to find a call on the end when he can only beat a 3 barrel total bluff. I bet 28000, he beat me in the pot with QJ, and I felt owned. I was down to 52000 or something at break.
After break I dribbled to 37000 before getting all-in preflop blind vs blind against Levi with two red nines against AsJh. The board came Ah8h4x9x and I turned him dead to double. There were almost 0 interesting hands for the rest of the day. I battled, battled and battled some more as I kept slipping to 60k or so and then climbing to 100. Huck and Brian Townsend kinda held over me all day but that's to be expected when you have great players to your left, I guess. There was one pot where I slowplayed two black kings against Danny Alaei. He raised pre to 7000 and I called with 68000 behind. Flop K66 two hearts. He bet 9500 I called. Turn 5x. He checked, I bet just 10000, he called. River 7x. He checked and I moved in for 48k or whatever and he folded.
The fatal hand came when Emil "whitelime" Patel raised to 8000 at 1500/3000 and I decided to defend QTo with 85k total. Flop AQ5r. I checkcalled 10500. Turn J. I checkcalled 22500. River A. I checkcalled all-in for my last 50ish thousand and was shown A7. The "call-off" is one of the shittiest feelings ever when you're wrong. Emil is a world-class player though and my hand is pretty face up, so somehow I talked myself into a call. Obviously checkcalling off 3 streets isn't exactly standard.
This was a fun event to be a part of. It's cool to test yourself against the very best players around. This was my first time to ever play with Doyle, and I'll say that it was a really good time listening to his stories and just watching how he conducts himself at the table.
There is a $1500 Omaha 8 or better event tomorrow. I'm going to sleep, refocus and try to capture a bracelet in this event. It will be an uphill battle for the series now, but I'll have a lot of money in action and it can turn around just like that.
