I busted in the fifth hour of the omaha eight or better tournament this afternoon. I don't think you can do a whole lot of analyzing, complaining, or blogging about a 9 handed $1500 omaha 8 tournament. I'll do my best to do all 3 of the aforementioned in the next 500 words. I'll say that I did enjoy my time playing this tournament. There's something sort of fun about reporting to work in the environment that I experienced today. Especially in the early levels, there isn't much if any real pressure and the game was social and enjoyable. I found a table with a group of mainly older, nitty gentlemen that I didn't recognize. Alex Gomes was the only player I recognized to my direct right. Alex really played well and ran sensationally (esp against me). I was up and down between the 4500 starting stack and 6000 in the first couple levels. I took 4550 to break. I came back from break and things just didn't exactly work out. A few pots quickly that led to my demise: At 1/200 limits a twenty-something kid raised from MP to 200, was called right behind, I called with AdAsTd9c in the SB and BB folded. Flop Qd8d7c. I checked, guy bet, guy called, I went ahead and raised it with world draw, got 3bet to 600, guy folded I called. Turn Kx.I checkcalled and river was like a fucking offsuit 3 or 4 and I have a clear checkfold. Guy was nice enough to tell me he had two pair, diamonds and then the nut low on the end. I was 2850. Then, a sort of redic one came up. A couple limps I limped QT32 on the button. Flop QQ5r. Megafish led out, Alex called with an obv Q I called with my semi-bad Q. Turn 3. Fish led 200, Alex called, I raised it. Both called. River 9. They checked to me, I bet, fish called, and as Alex splashed chips in I was just about to open my hand before realizing he raised it. akslhfdajksdhfkjadsfkjkjafd. I chunked the 3rd nut boat and fish found a call. Alex showed KKQ9. Phew. Later a dumb one came up. A couple limps to Alex at 150/300 limit on the button he raised it. I called KKQJ double suited in SB. We took it 4 handed. Flop K74r. I led 150 with absolute nuts, Brett "gank" Jungblut called, and Alex raised it. I 3bet, gank called, Alex called. Turn 5. Checked to Alex, he bet. I called. Gank called. River 6 and I puke my black coffee on the felt (not really). Checked to Gomes who bet. I guess I can chunk but I called. Gank called. Gomes showed A32x and gank has A973, so they chop. The next one against Gomes was kind of annoying. The incredibly active Brazilian raised the HJ and I 3bet As6s4s3x behind him to 450, Gomes called. Flop K96r one spade. Gomes checked, I bet, he quickcalled. Turn 9s giving me flush draw. Gomes checked, I checked. River 5s. Gomes bet and I hiked up my skirt up -n- just called. Gomes somehow showed up with AQ55 for a rivered under full and an I'm not sure what flop call in what was a microcosm of the day for him ;) I took 975 chips to the second break and returned to play 2/400 limits. I expired shortly thereafter when I raised AsTx9s3x from up front committing myself -n- got called in a few spots. I was stone dead by the turn. Again, it was a fun tournament. I feel like this post was one fucking big bad beat story though. It is what it is though. Zero for two to start, but I'm in Las Vegas this summer to press my value and not to worry about busting out of any single tournament. I did get really murdered in the $40,000 event financially because I had a ton of action besides myself, but luckily I've worked hard and am in a financial situation where I won't have to worry or recalculate my net worth despite the miserable start. Back in action in a $1000 NLHE affair tomorrow. Gonna be like 5000 people so gonna needa sorta run like God. SS
