Day 5 of my previous cruising blogby Linda Johnson | Published: Jan 10, '14 |
The excitement is building!
I hear that there are many new cruisers to meet on the HPT sailing in a few days!
Day 5 Georgetown, Grand Cayman
The first stop of the day was at the ship’s infirmary. The doctor wanted to re-examine Jan’s eye (from her trivia injury) to see if the bandages were ready to come off. Unfortunately, her eye was still very red and raw so he determined it best to wait another 24 hours to allow the eye to heal. That helped us to decide to stay on the ship instead of tendering into Grand Cayman. I really enjoy it when the ship is empty because it is quiet and I can walk without being jostled. Things that are hidden in the crowds such as tiny paintings and sculptures seem to jump out at you.
We took care of business instead of playing tourist. We met with the head chef, the food and beverage director, and the group coordinator regarding the logistics for next week’s poker cruise. We will have 300 players and 27 poker tables in the conference room on the ship, so a lot of preparation is needed.
We had the buffet lunch in the Windjammer then went to the internet café to catch up on emails. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing, reading, and watching TV. We went to ‘80s name that tune. Despite getting all the song names correct, we missed half of the names of the recording artists so didn’t win the silly key chains.
It was formal night in the dining room which meant lobster and baked Alaska. After dinner, we went to the production show and then to the Quest, a goofy adult scavenger hunt.
I wear a Fitbit every day which is a fancy pedometer. My goal six months ago was to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day which is about four miles at my pace. I haven’t walked less than that on any day during the entire six months. It’s easy to accomplish the goal on the ship; in fact, I’ve averaged 14,000 steps per day since I got on the ship six days ago.
Life is good!
