Living in Vegas!by Linda Johnson | Published: Feb 10, '14 |
I love living in Las Vegas and have lived here since 1980. In fact, I can’t really imagine living anywhere else. One of the things I like about living here – other than the gambling action – is the entertainment selection. I love the theater! In fact, I used to go to New York City at least once a year to catch some performances on Broadway.
Luckily for Las Vegas, we have a recently built theater (the Smith Center for the Performing Arts) that rivals any theater I have been to anywhere in the world when it comes to elegance. It consists of three theaters and was built at a cost of about $500 million. I have seen many shows at the Smith Center including Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, The Color Purple, Sister Act, and Memphis. Last week I got to see Flashdance and today I got to see Clint Holmes in concert. I am looking forward to seeing The Book of Mormon and the Ten Tenors in the next few months.
There are free shows available to locals every day and I’ve taken advantage of
some of them lately including Dancing With the Stars (I got to dance a cha cha with one of the pros!), The World Series of Karaoke, and Legends in Concert.
We are also fortunate to have a lot of local theatrical productions at UNLV and at the Las Vegas Little Theater and at some of our libraries. Agatha Christies “And Then There Were None” is opening next week at the LVLT and I’ll be there to see it. Maybe I’ll see you there?
