My day at the Cherokee Casino

I’m in my room at the Cherokee Casino in West Siloam Springs.getting ready to put some finishing touches on the no-limit seminar that Jan Fisher and I will be presenting at 11am today, May 18. So far, my stay here has been awesome.

Today started off with breakfast with Director of Table Games BJ Harrington, Poker Room Manager Travis Lamb, Poker Shift Manager Bobby Sadler, Jan Fisher, Mike Caro, and Diane McHaffie, It was especially wonderful to see my long time friends Bobby and Mike. After breakfast, I hosted an Omaha/8 seminar and then played in the O/8 tournament. I lasted about eight hours and busted out just in time to get into the Omaha/8 live game.

Oklahoma is known for its Omaha players in both PLO and Omaha 8/B. Tonight, I learned a new variation of the game of Omaha 8/B called “Sol." This form of Omaha 8/B was created by Sol Bayouth from Tulsa, Oklahoma. In “Sol,” the kill is a progressive kill. If a players scoops a qualifying pot, he must put out a full kill on the next hand and the limit becomes $20-$40. If he scoops the next consecutive hand, the limit goes to $30-$60. The kill stays on as long as that same player wins consecutive pots, even if there is no flop. For example, if the player had the kill at $30-$60 and everyone folded preflop, he would automatically kill it again at $40-$80, with the cap being $50-$100. Another difference that I really like is that if you win 3/4 of the pot, you must put in a half-kill ($15) and the limit goes to $15-$30. What looks like an ordinary $10-$20 Omaha 8/B is very deceiving.

This is my first trip to West Siloam Springs. I highly recommend you check it out. The room rates are very reasonable, the buffet is great and inexpensive, and they offer off track betting. The poker room is comfy, well-insulated from the noise and smoke in the casino, and spacious. They have free snacks in the poker room and a nearby self-serve beverage bar.

I’m playing in the ladies no-limit tournament today. I hope I’ll have some good news from that event.
Bye for now!
