Anecdote at the WSOPby Linda Johnson | Published: Jun 16, '14 |
I have been putting in lots of hours at the Rio playing. The games have been awesome! Something happened at the table two days ago that I would like to share with you for your enjoyment.
I was sitting next to a very nice, young man named Alex during the $1,500 HORSE tournament, and we had been chatting a lot. He was absolutely charming and a very good representative for the younger generation. In the middle of the third round, Jack came up behind me and handed me a beautiful rose and wished me good luck. Alex was not paying attention and missed all of this since he was listening to music on his IPOD and reading Twitter at the time.
When Alex and I starting chatting again a few minutes later, I showed him the rose that Jack had given me and said something like, "This should be a life lesson to you about how simple consideration and taking the effort and time to make the person you care about feel valued and appreciated helps enhance your relationship (he had introduced me to his girlfriend earlier) He thought about it for a minute and said, “You’re right. I took my girlfriend a phone charger before the tournament started. In today’s tech world, that’s the equivalent of giving her a rose.”
