Eureka, I've Found it in Mesquite, NV!!!

Sorry I haven’t written a blog lately but I’ve been busy playing poker. I just got home from 10 relaxing and fun-filled days in the restful desert town of Mesquite, NV, a mere one-hour drive north of Downtown Las Vegas.

The Eureka Resort and Casino is home to an event that Jan Fisher and I host twice a year – once in January and once in August. We have become good friends with many of the locals and enjoy playing poker with them. Ten-way chops at the final table are not unusual. The Eureka Open ends with a $20,000 freeroll open to anyone playing 25 or more hours during the qualifying time or winning one of the tournaments. Today’s freeroll ended in a 30-way even chop today; I was lucky to get in on the chop and get $667.

I love the laid-back atmosphere in Mesquite. The locals are friendly and there are some great golf courses, spas, dollar stores, restaurants, and movie theaters. Many friends drive up for the day and/or for the week. We reserve a huge table in the Mason Street Market Café and everyone is invited to join us for an 11am breakfast each day before the noon tournament. On slow days we would have about a dozen people join in, and often there were 20 or more friends at the table. We also enjoyed our group dinners and especially loved the Friday/Saturday night seafood buffet. Well done, Eureka!

The hotel is being remodeled and the new rooms are amazing. The hotel and casino staff are top notch and provide great customer service and even have smiles on their faces.

Another reason I like Mesquite is because I’ve had a lot of tournament success there. This time was no exception. Jan kicked butt and final tabled seven out of 11 events and finished in the money in five of them. I managed to fare even better by cashing in seven of the 11 tournaments! I also won a nice prize and trophy for winning the all-around player award.

Life is good in Eureka. I hope many of you will join Jan and me from January 16-24, 2015, for our next Eureka Open. You’ll be glad you did!
