Online poker site, casino, and sportsbook BET24 has issued a warning regarding a security breach of personal customer information relating to various companies including BET24.

The police have informed the company that third party individuals have been arrested for stealing information by illegal electronic access to the site’s database in December 2009. A small number of customers who complained of unauthorised activity have been fully reimbursed by the site for any financial loss.

So far it is thought that the stolen information was used to access a limited number of customer BET24 accounts, third party accounts, and personal email accounts. There is apparently no information to indicate unauthorised access since December 2009, therefore it is believed that accounts registered after Oct. 31, 2009 have not been affected.

The site released two lists of stolen information for customers with accounts registered at Apr. 28, 2007. One includes customer names, postal addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, BET24 account user names, user ID numbers, account passwords and balances; and the other includes details such as customer payment card expiry dates, encrypted customer payment card numbers, and encoded customer payment card types. The latter list also applies to customers with accounts registered between Apr. 28, 2007 and Oct. 31, 2009.

It is thought that the encrypted card information has not been decrypted and the site also states that card security codes are not stored on its database.

Bet24 is currently working with the police to find out how the information was stolen, how it has been used, and who has been affected. In the meantime, the site has released general security advice for its customers.
