Movie star Edward Norton appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman” last month to promote his new film “Birdman,” but he actually got started with the interview talking about the poker cult classic “Rounders,” which could one day, hopefully, have a sequel.

Norton told Letterman:

“I think there is a possibility of it. Yeah, we couldn’t have had more fun making that movie. That was one of the best gangs of people ever. We did it right on the cusp of what became kind of the resurgence of the poker phenomenon. Matt and I talked later…we should have negotiated like a five-percent rake on every poker pot that was played after that. Then we could have made the [follow-up] film with our money!”

Norton added that after the movie he couldn’t go to Las Vegas because people were stopping him all the time and yelling “Worm!” Norton’s character in Rounders was nicknamed that.

Poker fans are still waiting for a follow-up to the 1998 film and Norton’s comments can be seen as discouraging. A sequel is still “in development,” according to IMDB. Nearly a year ago, there was an announcement that a Rounders 2 would be made, but no word of progress has been released.

As the stars from the original movie age, every year that passes probably reduces the sequel’s chances. Norton is 45 and Matt Damon is 44.
