The gambling world can sometimes produce really off-the-wall stories. Every month there are plenty of cases of individuals going to extreme lengths to pay back debts, or of simply bizarre behavior at casino properties around the globe. It can be entertaining and sometimes sad.

March 2018 was no exception, as there was plenty that happened in the casino world.

Here’s a look at some of the most colorful and/or noteworthy from the month that was.

Las Vegas Sports Book Lists Odds For Mayweather Getting His Ass Kicked In MMA

The first fight was mildly competitive, but now Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are floating an idea to enter the Octagon in what would surely be a weird evening if the money grab ever happened. The Westgate sports book in Las Vegas has officially listed odds for the potential rematch. The first contest was on Mayweather’s turf, and McGregor would obviously love some revenge in the cage. He’s been trying to goad Mayweather. People familiar with mixed martial arts know that Mayeather, who is 41 years of age, should have no chance unless the rules are tweaked or there’s a massive officiating or judging scandal of some kind.

Insane March Madness In-Game Bet On Massive Percent Favorite Goes Awry

There’s no such thing as sure bets in sports. One gambler found that out after a huge upset in the second round of the March Madness tournament. Cincinnati, a no. 2 seed in the bracket, climbed to a massive favorite to win the game when it was up 65-43 with 11 minutes left in regulation and showed no signs of cooling off. Cincinnati was favored by 7.5 points prior to tipoff. Nevada sports books allow bets during the game, not just before. A bettor on William Hill’s in-game sports betting app reportedly bet $2,000 on Cincinnati when the lead was 22. What was the gambler in line to win if the Bearcats held the seemingly insurmountable lead? A measly $26.

Feds Say That Poker Pro Used Ticket Scam To Fund Gambling

The feds allege that a high-stakes poker player funded trips to the Aria and Bellagio casinos on the Las Vegas Strip through a ticket scam. A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said that Seyed Reza Ali Fazeli, 49, has been indicted on wire fraud charges that allege a $6.2 million scheme that bilked investors who were promised “large profits” from the resale of tickets to popular sporting events. Fazeli allegedly ran a Las Vegas-based ticket business called Summit Entertainment, which also operated under the names onlinetickets.com and pacertickets.com. The operation ran from May 2016 to “at least May 2017,” the feds said.

Trump Administration Fired Top Aide Because He Gambles

Though he has appeared neutral to online gaming, former Atlantic City casino boss Donald Trump, who is currently the 45th President of the U.S., apparently let a top aide leave the White House because he liked to play casino games over the internet. According to a report from The Washington Post, President Trump’s personal assistant, John McEntee, was outed because he apparently was a security risk thanks to his fondness for online gambling. It’s not clear if the former University of Connecticut starting quarterback had a gambling problem.

Woman To Risk Disqualification Playing World Series Of Poker Disguised As A Man

A poker pro is willing to risk being kicked out of the most prestigious poker tournament in the world in order to promote her new book. An upcoming book entitled Black Widow Poker features the experiences of a West Coast poker player with the pen name Sia Layta. She plans to head to the upcoming World Series of Poker in Las Vegas this summer to play publicly during the book launch. Layta said she will enter July’s $10,000 buy-in main event and play disguised as a man. However, the WSOP said she could be disqualified.

Houston Zumba Studio Busted For Actually Being An Illegal Casino

According to authorities, there is no dancing around gambling laws in Houston’s Precinct 5, and we know this because their Major Offenders Unit raided an illegal casino that was disguised as a Zumba dance studio, arresting one attendant who was working inside at the time. Instead of people dropping a few pounds through dancing and aerobic movements performed to energetic music, people walking inside the “studio” were dropping mad cash in “dozens of gaming machines” in hopes of striking it rich.

Casino Patron Gets Out Of Wheelchair To Attack Slots Player

A 63-year-old Buffalo man told police he was assaulted by a man in a wheelchair at the Seneca Niagara Casino hotel. The victim told police that while he was at the casino, he wanted to use a particular slot machine. A woman and her boyfriend, who was in a wheelchair, were sitting near the machine but they weren’t playing on it, so the victim asked the woman if she could move. The woman reportedly yelled at the victim but did move, allowing the victim and his wife to begin playing. The displaced woman threw a chair at the couple, barely missing the victim’s wife and inciting an argument, during which the man in the wheelchair got up and punched the victim and tore his leather jacket before leaving.
