The gambling world can sometimes produce really off-the-wall stories. Every month there are plenty of cases of individuals going to extreme lengths to pay back debts, or of simply bizarre behavior at casino properties around the globe. It can be entertaining and sometimes sad.

May 2018 was no exception, as there was plenty that happened in the casino world.

Here’s a look at some of the most colorful and/or noteworthy from the month that was.

Security Guard At Texas Poker Room Accused Of Robbing Player

A poker player who was robbed and shot outside one of Texas’ social poker clubs has recovered, as the suspects are now behind bars. Jermaine Patrick Spirlark, 41, and Charles Clines-Martinez, 24, have been charged with aggravated robbery for the incident that happened in the early morning hours on April 30. The alleged crime happened outside of the Texas Card House, which is located in northwest Austin.

Jason Koon Loses $2M Poker Cash Game Pot

One of the priciest poker pots ever caught on camera occurred in the €1,000,000 buy-in “Triton Cash Game” held in Montenegro as part of a high roller tournament series. The €2,000-€4,000 no-limit hold’em game featured poker legends, and it was poker pros Jason Koon and Kane Kalas who found themselves in the largest confrontation of the cash game, a $2.1 million pot.

Mayweather Wins $100,000 On Video Poker Royal Flush

Who says Floyd “Money” Mayweather needs the UFC’s Conor McGregor to make a killing in Las Vegas these days? The sort-of retired boxer was at an unnamed Las Vegas casino recently and played a little video poker, according to his Instagram. According to reports, Mayweather began the gambling session with $20,000, and ended up winning $101,000 after making a royal flush on a “Ten Play Draw Poker” machine.

Gordon Vayo Sues PokerStars Over Confiscated Winnings

Poker pro Gordon Vayo, the runner-up in the 2016 World Series of Poker main event, says that PokerStars is engaged in a “pattern of fraudulent and unlawful conduct,” according to a lawsuit filed May 2. He alleges that the site illegally prevented him from cashing out about $700,000 in winnings from a high-stakes poker tournament in May 2017. Vayo, based out of Los Angeles, alleges that the Canadian online gaming giant since 2011 has conducted “sham investigation[s]” into the online activity of U.S. citizens and residents registered with the site in an effort to prevent some lucrative cash outs.

Poker Player Runs Crazy All-In Bluff With 7-2 At Final Table

PokerStars online qualifier Krisztian Gyorgyi ran one of the most brazen bluffs you’ll ever see deep in a major poker tournament. The next player eliminated was slated to collect $64,800, while the top prize sitting at the end of the tournament road was $854,400. Gyorgyi didn’t care, and what he did made for some great TV. He had invested only a handful of Euros into his tournament run. So he decided to bluff all in with the worst hand in poker.

Woman Turns $18 Into $1.2M On Kentucky Derby Bet

One lucky bettor from Texas pocketed a whopping $1.2 million from a measly $18 bet on the Kentucky Derby. The woman, whose name wasn’t disclosed, correctly picked five straight winners in Races 8-12 at Churchill Downs. The woman correctly selected Justify as the winner of the Derby, but that horse was considered the favorite to win. She also correctly picked a 40-1 underdog (Funny Duck) in a different race.
