The gambling world can sometimes produce really off-the-wall stories. Every month there are plenty of cases of individuals going to extreme lengths to pay back debts, or of simply bizarre behavior at casino properties around the globe. It can be entertaining and sometimes sad.

June 2018 was no exception, as there was plenty that happened in the casino world.

Here’s a look at some of the most colorful and/or noteworthy from the month that was.

Authorities Arrest 21 In Apartment Poker Game

Police in Brisbane shut down an illegal poker game overnight after a raid on an apartment in West End, in what is being billed as a crackdown on unlawful gambling in the city. According to local ABC News reports, police were following a tip-off from a member of the community, and seized “large amounts of cash”, as well as “gaming equipment, poker chips and phones.” Under Queensland Law, operating a place for unlawful games is punishable by a fine of more than $75,000, or three years in prison. A person found guilty of playing an unlawful game can be hit with a fine exceeding $5,000.

Police Officer, Wife Accused Of Plotting To Rob Gambler

A Nassau County police officer and his wife, a casino employee at Jake’s 58, were arrested and charged with plotting a gunpoint robbery of a casino patron. Prosecutors say 29-year-old Christina Moeller, who works in the cash room at Jake’s 58, noticed that a patron was winning a lot of money back on March 1. She then allegedly texted her husband, 32-year-old Bruce Moeller, and gave him a description of the lucky customer. Prosecutors say once Bruce Moeller got his wife’s text message, he came to Jake’s 58 with his gun and searched the casino looking for that patron to rob.

Dan Bilzerian Gets Felted In $1-$2 Poker Cash Game With Seven-Deuce

Earlier this month, high-stakes poker player and polarizing Instagram celebrity Dan Bilzerian reportedly threw a party at a $100 million mansion in Los Angeles, but this past weekend he was spotted playing $1-$2 no-limit hold’em at a casino in Las Vegas. Poker vlogger Brad Owen captured some video footage of the session, which included a hand in which Bilzerian moved all in with 7-2 off suit on a board reading 6-3-2-5. Owen called Bilzerian’s all-in bet of $150 with 7-5 and won the hand.

Poker Couple Battles Heads-Up For Big Live Tournament Title

Just a couple months removed from their back-to-back victories at the APPT Macau High Roller and Super High Roller, poker power couple Alex Foxen and Kristen Bicknell were at it again, this time playing against each other for a big tournament title in Las Vegas. The two players were part of 178 entries in the $5,000 buy-in Mid-States Poker Tour event at the Venetian as part of the ongoing DeepStack Championship Poker Series. After three days of action, the happy couple found themselves heads-up and chopping the lion’s share of the prize pool.

Man Bets $10K Into $900 Pot On Bluff, Loses And Tries To Take Back Bet

This angleshoot in a Los Angeles cash game is definitely among the worst ever recorded. At the Bicycle Casino, a player by the name of “Armenian Mike” bet $10,300 on the river into a $900 pot with just ace-high and a pair on the board, and he was instantly called by poker pro Ryan Feldman with a full house. Mike then tried to take his wager back and claimed his bet was a joke. Chaos then ensued.

Man Goes Into Huge Celebration Prematurely, Loses On River Card

Poker players Roberly Felicio and Sang Liu were battling it out for the $1 million top prize. The runner-up would receive $500,000, an unusually large pay gap between first and second place. Both men waded through a field of 13,070 entries to make it to heads-up play. On one of the final hands, Liu was a big favorite to win the tournament and so he broke out into celebration, but Felicio hit a lucky river card.

Poker Pro Busts $10K WSOP Tournament, Wins $200K At Video Poker

Poker pro Bart Hanson was super excited about the WSOP’s $10,000 buy-in Omaha eight-or-better event. He had final tabled similar versions of the event three times in previous years. However, the deck wasn’t too kind to Hanson and he busted before making the money. A little tilted, Hanson left the Rio casino’s Convention Center and went to the main gaming floor at nearby Caesars Palace to “let off some steam” playing video poker. When the dust settled, Hanson was pocketing a whopping $200,000 after hitting a royal flush in clubs. Remarkably, Hanson won more at video poker than he would have if he finished third in the Omaha tournament.
