Christoph Vogelsang emerged victorious in the 2021 partypoker POWERFEST $25,500 no-limit hold’em super high roller event, overcoming a field of 58 total entries to secure the title and the first-place prize of $469,691. The German high stakes regular has more than $25 million in career live tournament earnings, with millions more won online.

Vogelsang picked up pocket aces against the pocket kings of Matthias Eibinger, eliminating the Austrian in eighth place ($63,075) to take the chip lead heading into the final table of seven, which was entirely comprised of top tournament talent. Short stacks Linus Loeliger (7th – $69,634) and Teun Mulder (6th – $80,909) were the first to fall. 2016 Card Player Player of the Year award winner David Peters was the next to be eliminated. The two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner got all-in with ASpade Suit8Spade Suit on a 8Club Suit7Spade Suit3Club Suit flop and found himself up against the 9Club Suit7Club Suit of Shawn Daniels. The 9Spade Suit on the turn gave Daniels two pair for the lead, but Peters picked up a flush draw to go with his other outs. The 5Diamond Suit on the end was no held to Peters, though, and he was knocked out in fifth place ($96,574).

Despite earning that knockout, Daniels run in this event came to an end in fourth place. He shoved all-in with pocket deuces from the small blind and ran into the pocket eights of Pascal Lefrancois in the big blind. The larger pair held up and Daniels was sent to the virtual rail with $130,438.

Vogelsang entered three-handed play as the short stack, but doubled through Lefrancois early on to close the gap considerably. Lefrancois ended up finishing third after he ran top pair into the two pair of Sami Kelopuro. The two got all of the chips in on the turn and Lefrancois was unable to come from behind. He cashed for $188,132, while Kelopuro took more than a 3:1 chip lead into heads-up play.

Early on in the heads-up battle, Vogelsang flopped top set against Kelopuro’s top pair in what ended up being one of the largest poits of the final table. The Finnish poker pro improved to two pair on the river to seal his fate. The chips all got into the middle and Vogelsang doubled up to essentially even the match. He overtook the lead shortly after that, and then extended his advantage by picking off a big bluff. By the time the final hand was dealt, Vogelsang sat with more than a 5:2 chip lead.

With blinds of 40,000-80,000 and an ante of 10,000, Kelopuro limped in from the button with AHeart Suit3Heart Suit. Vogelsang raised to 408,000 with ASpade SuitJHeart Suit and Kelopuro moved all-in for 1,489,204. Vogelsang called and the board came down JSpade Suit8Diamond Suit6Heart Suit4Diamond SuitKSpade Suit to secure the pot and the title for the German. Kelopuro was awarded $288,469 as the runner-up.
