Michael SimhaiThe 2022 World Series of Poker $1,500 no-limit hold’em shootout capped out it’s field at 1,000 players, building a prize pool of $1,335,000.

The shootout format is different than a traditional tournament. Rather than consolidate the tables as the field plays down, in a shootout, players must defeat everybody at their table before they advance to the next round.

In this event, the 1,000 entries each sat down at ten-handed table. There were 100 winners, each making the money to earn at least $5,835. Those 100 players then formed ten more ten-handed tables, with the winners all advancing to the final table and pocketing at least $19,253. The payouts then ladder up from there, with the winner taking home $240,480 and the WSOP bracelet.

After three days of single-table sit-n-gos, it was Beverly Hills, California resident Michael Simhai who came away with the title and his first career bracelet.

This was only Simhai’s second ever cash at the series. His first was way back in 2009, also in the $1,500 shootout. Although in that event, he didn’t get passed the second round and earned $5,236. He does have wins at other events, including the Bellagio Cup, L.A. Poker Open, Winning O’ The Green, and the Poker Derby.

The final table also featured WSOP bracelet winner Kevin Song (9th — $24,001), HPT winner Austin Peck (7th — $38,455), and WPT champion Ravi Raghavan (4th — $84,047). Other notables that won their first round to make the money included Chris Moorman, Mustapha Kanit, Tom Schneider, Qui Nguyen, Brad Owen, Cole Ferraro, Viet Vo, Ben Keeline, Landon Tice, JJ Liu, Michael Trivett, Jonas Mackoff, Brian Yoon, Noah Bronstein, Patrick Leonard, Matt Stout, Aaron Massey, and Eugene Katchalov.

This was the only shootout on the schedule for the 2022 WSOP.
