Pennsylvania Gambling Win Grows 8% In May

Nearly $500M Bet On Sports During The Month

PA CapitolThe Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported June 16 that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming during May 2022 was $447,794,294, an increase of 8.38% compared to revenue generated in May 2021.

According to the regulator, total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $181,638,712 during May 2022.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs).

May’s gross revenue from retail slot machines was $205,666,269, a 2.1% increase in revenue when compared to the $201,390,367 generated in May 2021. The number of slot machines in operation in May 2022 was 26,004 compared to 22,496 at the casinos in May 2021. Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in May 2022 was $104,828,309.

Table games revenue in brick-and-mortar casinos for May 2022 was $88,577,662, an increase of 14.7% from May 2021 when revenue was $77,229,031. Total tax revenue from table games play during May 2022 was $14,246,754.

Casino games offered online generated gross revenue of $113,305,939 during May 2022 compared to $101,251,771 in May 2021, an increase of 11.9%. Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during May 2022 was $47,818,040.

May 2022 total sports wagering handle was $493,350,519, 10.2% above the May 2021 total of $447,465,027. Taxable revenue figure for May 2022 was $35,009,849, compared to $27,746,484 in May 2021, an increase of 26.1%.
