It is time to take your poker game to the next level, and Ocean’s Eleven Casino can help you do that — for free. The casino now features advanced poker lessons by the esteemed Tom Gallagher for no cost to the public. Gallagher, who has spent 25 years in the poker industry as a trainer and coach, has performed seminars with Phil Hellmuth and Johnny Chan, amongst others.

The one-hour class will run several times throughout the day from Dec. 6-Jan. 10. To sign up, contact Suzanne Carter, marketing director, or just stop by the poker room.

The free beginners lessons will remain on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m., respectively.

Ocean’s Eleven is also rewarding its loyal customers with its Racing for Dollars promotion, which kicks off Jan. 1. For 60 hours of play, a player receives $60. There are many levels in between, but if a customer logs 800 hours, he or she will receive $2,500 cash.

Starting Jan. 1, players can also qualify for the casino’s $100,000 championship event on Dec. 13, 2009. Players qualify by playing a number of the daily tournaments in the poker room and earning points for their performances.

Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park announced it will host the inaugural Great Minnesota Freeze Out, a $1,500+$120 no-limit hold’em tournament, on Sunday, Jan. 25.

Players can either buy their way into the finals or earn their way in through one of the qualifying heats Wednesday, Jan. 21 through Saturday, Jan. 25. The top 20 percent of each $300+$40 qualifying heat will earn a non-transferable seat into the finals with no additional entry fee.

“The Minnesota winters may be cold, but the action in our poker room is always hot. Don’t get frozen out of our newest tournament,” said John Harty, vice president of marketing at Canterbury Park.

Canterbury Park is home to Minnesota’s largest and longest-standing poker room with 34 poker tables.

Tournament qualifying heats will run Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The finals will begin Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
