The PartyPoker.com Irish Poker Championship is due to set the poker ball rolling for the new year, and it will play out in the Radisson SAS Hotel in Galway, Ireland from Jan. 2-5. The €2,000 buy-in will see many well-known names participating including Donnacha O’Dea, Marty Smyth, Padraig Parkinson, Ciaran O’ Leary, and Andy Black. Among latest additions are Julian Gardner, Marc Goodwin, and John Kabbaj.
If that is not enough excitement for early 2009, there will be even more when Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, Jon Kalmar, and Kenna James take to the microphone for a singing competition.
A PartyPoker spokesperson said, “Skalie used to be the lead singer of a punk band, the Devilfish is well known for his excellence in tinkling the ivories, while Kenna James has recorded his own material and received great reviews. We suspect that no matter how good they are though that whoever steps up to sing the first Irish song is likely to get the best reception! The identity of the judging panel is currently a closely guarded secret.”
Last year the main event, which is televised on RTE television and distributed around the world, was won by local man Jude Ainsworth who lifted €100,000.
