Thirty-six year old Priyan de Mel yesterday won the penultimate leg of the 2009 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, heading the field of 287 players to take down the £84,900 first prize and a seat in the £100,000 guaranteed Champion of Champions tournament in London later this month.
De Mel beat 23-year-old James Williams from Swindon heads up. Holding a 2:1 chip lead at the start of play he was soon all in on a J-J-7-5 board holding J-8 after Williams had bluffed at the pot holding 6-3 on the turn.
The victor said after the tournament, “I am delighted to have won this title, but I could easily have been out on day one if I had not hit my gutshot against Andy [Seden]”
Ben Vinson finished third marking his third final table at GUKPT events including third in last year’s Blackpool renewal.
The continuation of the GUKPT has also now been confirmed and the full 2010 schedule will be released on Tuesday 17th November.
The final table payouts were:
1: Priyan de Mel — £84,900
