Outcome

Blinds at 80,000-160,000 and a 20,000 ante, Nguyen raised to 350,000, Le reraised to 1,350,000, Nguyen called. On the flop, Nguyen checked, Le checked. On the turn Nguyen checked, Le bet 1,400,000, Nguyen called. On the river Nguyen went all in, Le called.

Analysis

Nguyen speculated a bit after Le’s preflop reraise, a luxury afforded by his veritable mountain of chips. Nguyen might have felt the call was worth it after flopping a four-flush, but his opponent was lurking behind with trips. Le gave his opponent a free card, hoping to trap. Nguyen paired his 6 on the turn and again checked, while Le was no longer giving free cards with the potential straight and flush draws. The time had come to build a pot, and Nguyen was ready to call the bet of half the pot with his third pair and flush redraw. The turn card was a disaster for Nguyen, since he had played his draw conservatively, other than the ADiamond Suit the only two cards that could have gotten him into much trouble were the two remaining sixes. Nguyen had made an extremely well-disguised sixes full, unfortunately he was up against a well-disguised and unlikely kings full. Nguyen open-shoved the river, knowing his opponent had already invested half of his stack in the hand. Any holed 10, pocket jacks, and so on were likely calling, and maybe even more marginal hands would, as well. Le caught a substantial double-up, while Nguyen was still quite comfortable in spite of losing a 11 million pot.
