With the blinds at 1,200-2,400 and a 400 ante, Collins raised to 6,000 from under the gun, Young called, Player A called in the big blind. On the flop, Player A checked, Collins checked, Young bet 11,000, Player A called, Collins raised to 50,000, Young went all in, Player A folded, Collins called.
Once the flop was checked around, Young bet to protect his set from potential straight and flush draws. Collins suspected that Young might have been playing position, while Player A was probably marginal or drawing with the check-call. Inspired by this scenario and his hand’s potential, Collins submitted a hefty check-raise, enjoying bottom pair with a flush redraw. Young announced a real hand after moving in, proving to Collins that he had not merely been playing position. Collins enjoyed a near 6-1 chip lead over Young, and facing a raise of just over 50,000 for the pot of over 190,000 he quickly called after assessing the fantastic pot odds. He discovered his redraws to two-pair and trips would not be successful, but he picked up a straight draw on the turn, now needing a 3 or a heart for the pot. Young’s set could not hold off the hearts on the river, and he suffered the elimination. Collins eventually busted in 29th, for $11,500.
