At the final table, six-handed, with the blinds at 15,000-30,000 and a 5,000 ante, Braband raised to 75,000 from the cutoff, Brunetti called in the big blind. On the flop, Brunetti checked, Braband bet 80,000, Brunetti called. On the turn, Brunetti bet 155,000, Braband went all in, Brunetti called.
Braband went after the blinds with his late-position raise, but Brunetti was lurking with an attractive, suited ace. His hand strength may have merited a reraise, but he elected to call with his chip position of 30 big blinds. Braband offered a continuation-bluff on the flop, but Brunetti check-called with his leading ace high. Brunetti must have been relieved at the turn card, which moved him from a guessing game with ace high into top pair, top kicker. He lead out, while his shorter-stacked opponent misread the situation and attempted a hero play. Braband was all in, needing a jack or his gutshot-straight draw to materialize on the river. Brunetti watched in disbelief as the dealer filled Braband’s unlikely inside-straight draw, crushing Brunettis chip position to just six big blinds. Brunetti was subsequently eliminated in sixth, for $63,000.
