Final table, 10-handed, with the blinds at 15,000-30,000 with a 4,000 ante, Flowers raised to 70,000 from under the gun, Frankenberger called in early position. On the flop, Flowers checked, Frankenberger bet 100,000, Flowers raised to 500,000, Frankenberger called. On the turn, Flowers went all in, Frankenberger called.
Frankenberger was the chip leader at the start of this hand, but the other players were right behind in a tightly stacked group. He took a stab at the pot using position once Flowers checked it over, but was faced with a substantial check-raise which should have led to an easy fold. The coordinated flop with both straight and flush potential inspired the large check-raise from Flowers, who had now invested more than 64 percent of his stack on the hand. Frankenberger’s ace high wasn’t looking good, and his opponent seemed clearly pot-committed and wary of draws. Flowers predictably moved the remainder in on the turn, leaving Frankenberger with a call of 318,000 more for a pot of 1,543,000. Frankenberger pursued his turned straight draw, but any king would deliver Flowers a winning full house. Flowers caught a key double-up early at the final table, while Frankenberger’s wild call on the flop resulted in the unnecessary gift of more than one-third of his stack.
