Big Hands:
Khan Knocks Out Lynch
Hevad Khan raised from early position and Eric Lynch decided it was time for him to move all in for his last 42,000. Khan made the call and saw that he was flipping. Khan tabled 55 and Lynch showed AJ.
The board ran out favorable for Lynch as it came 410K66, keeping Khan’s pair in the lead and eliminating “Rizen” from the tournament.
Elky Slips With Big Slick
Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier called his opponent all in for about 60,000 preflop. Elky showed AK and was racing against his opponents 1010. The flop was not good for Elky, even though he flopped two pair as it fell AK10.
The turn and river were unable to fill Elky’s full house with the 5 on the turn and the Q on the river. Elky dropped to 235,000.
The Man Can Dodge Bullets Baby
Phil Hellmuth called 1,600 under the gun and the action folded around to the big blind. He put in a raise and Hellmuth called. The flop was J32 and both players checked. The turn was the 10 and they both checked again. The river brought the 5 and the big blind led out with 11,500. Hellmuth made the call and the big blind tabled JJ for a set of jacks. Hellmuth showed Q10 and proceeded to pat himself on the back for losing the minimum.
“I flopped a flush draw, turned a 10 and still almost got away from it for nothing,” Hellmuth said. He was at 280,000.
Junglen Loses Some Ground with Pocket Eights
Adam Junglen raised to 6,000 preflop and was called by one player. The action get back to the big blind who three-bet to 36,000. Junglen asked how much the player had behind his raise and went into the tank. After finding out that he had another 45,000 behind, Junglen moved 101,000 into the middle. That got the other player out of the way, but not the big blind, who called off the rest of his stack.
Junglen held the 88 and was behind the JJ of his opponent. The board didn’t improve Junglen at all and Junglen’s stack dropped to 51,000.
Cowboys Work For Gazes
Kristy Gazes got all of her chips into the middle preflop and was called by her opponent. Her opponent had QQ, but were second best against Gazes’ KK.
The board ran out 827 and Gazes’ pocket kings held up, doubling her up to 102,000.
Left In The Deck:
Seeing Double
At table #65, Dennis Phillips is sitting across from a man dressed in what can only be described as Dennis Phillips costume. The man is wearing a St. Louis Cardinals hat and the white trucker shirt that was worn by many at last year’s main event final table. Phillips claim that the man is just a fan that became a friend.
Lisandro Wins Player Of The Year
It was just announced that Jeff Lisandro is officially the 2009 WSOP player of the year. All Lisandro did this year was cash six times and win three bracelets. Congratulations to Lisandro, the 2009 WSOP Player of the Year.

Ram Vaswani: 62,000
Dario Alioto: 61,000

Mats Rahmn: 58,000
Eliminations: Chris Ferguson
Big Hands and Storylines:
Williams Shoots Up Leaderboard
After a series of raises David Williams got all in on a flop of J42 and showed down KKJ4. His opponent showed AA76 and was trailing Williams' two pair. The 7 hit on the turn, not changing much, but when the J fell on the river Williams filled up and took a massive pot that put him around 80,000 in chips.
Ferguson Outdrawn, Elimianted
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson got all in on a flop of Q98 and showed J1033 for the flopped straight and flush draw. He was in good shape against his opponent's KQQ7 - an overpair with a better flush draw. But when the 4 came on the turn Ferguson's opponent hit the larger flush and Ferguson was drawing dead. The K came on the river and Jesus was gone.
The Italian Pirate Hits His Flush
Max Pescatori was all in on a flop of 983 and showed JJQA for an overpair and the nut flush draw. His opponent showed 5689 for two pair and a gutshot straight draw. The 3 came on the turn to give Pescatori a better two pair, and the final nail went in the coffin when the 7 hit on the river to give Pescatori the nut flush.
Cold Deck For Kostritsyn
Alexander Kostritsyn called when seat 7 bet 4,000 on a flop of J54. When seat 7 bet 8,000 on the Q turn, Kostritsyn called again. When both players checked the river seat 7 began to shake his head as if he had nothing and was embarrassed to show his hand. Kostrisyn proudly showed K-K-x-x for an overpair, but finally seat 7 showed AA109 for the ultimate overpair. Kostritsyn held up his hands as if to say, "Why would you slowroll me?" and seat 7 made it known that it was not his intention to do so, and he just thought he was beat. The loss put Kostritsyn on the short stack.
Moneymaker Bullies Rizen
Eric Lynch bet 6,000 on a board of Q33J only to have Chris Moneymaker raise to 13,000. Lynch looked surprised by the raise and eventually elected to lay down his hand and give a nice pot to Moneymaker early in the level.

Big Hands:
Lynch The Opposite of Rising
Eric "Rizen" Lynch was eliminated in a huge pot involving Mike Griffith and an unknown player in seat 5. Lynch, first to act, pushed all in for about 13,000 on a flop of AJ4. Seat 5 called, as did Griffith, for whom the call represented more than half of his stack. Both players checked down the turn and the river, which were Q and 7. Lynch turned over AA for top set. Griffith, however, had gotten there on the river in more than one way, as his Q3 made the second nut flush, and his 32 was good for the nut low. Griffith scooped a pot worth more than 40,000. Lynch was eliminated.
Kid, Don't Mess With My Blind
On Erik Seidel's big blind the action folded around to the youthful small blind, who raised to 2,500. Seidel responded by raising to 7,500. The kid folded. Seidel is now at about 54,000 in chips.

After the hand Porter had roughly 4,000 chips.
Rizen loses thanks to shaky play by opponent
With the board showing 422, Eric 'Rizen' Lynch bet 450 into the pot and got one call. The turn was the K, and this time Lynch checked. His opponent then bet 1,000, and Lynch quickly raised to 2,000. But then his opponent reraised all in for just a little over 2600 and Lynch made the call with QQ, well behind the AK his opponent held. Lynch said that he expected to see nines, tens or jacks when he raised on the turn, not A-K. Lynch is down to 700 chips and is at a tough table. Jon 'Pearljammed Turner and Bertrand 'ELKY' Gospilli are there are as well.
Seif Flushes on River
Mark Seif was in the big blind and checked his option as four players saw the flop which came 1063. All players checked and the 7 came on the turn. Seif bet 300 and drew one call. The 9 came on the river and both players checked again. Seif showed K8 for the flush and his opponent folded.
Markholt Calls, Then Folds
Lee Markholt was in the big blind when the player under the gun raised to 250. Everybody folded to Markholt who called. The flop came 977. Markholt checked, and his opponent bet out 475, to which Markholt folded.

Cardoza Eliminates Lawson And Other Player In Consecutive Hands, Takes Chip Lead
After break the bubble was just one hand away from popping, and once it did players started dropping like flies.
Ted Lawson raised 3,000 preflop and was called by the player in seat 3 and Avery Cardoza. The flop came QJ10 and all three players checked. The turn brought a seemingly harmless 5 - but this card lit the fuse. Lawson bet out and got all in only to be called by Cardoza, who held A8 for the nut flush. Lawson showed 55 for a set and asked for the board to pair but the 3 came on the river and Lawson was gone.
The following hand, Cardoza called the preflop raise of seat 1 and after a KQQ Cardoza instantly called when seat 1 moved all in. Seat 1 showed AK, but he grabbed his things and prepared for his elimination when Cardoza flipped over Q10. Cardoza is the chip leader with around 155,000 in chips.
Mikolay Chipping Up
Bill Mikolay eliminated a player when his A-J paired twice on a A-K-J-4-4 board. His opponent showed Q-J before heading to claim his payout. With the pot, Mikolay is among the chip leaders with around 73,000 in chips.
"Rizen" Not Rizing
On a 984 flop, Eric "Rizen" Lynch called a 4,000 bet from the player in seat 4. The J came on the turn and seat 4 bet 8,000 more. Lynch thought then mucked his hand, taking a hit to his stack. He later busted.
Check, Check, Check, Lose
Ryan Young called another player's raise preflop and both players checked every card as it came out on the Q105J9 board. His opponent showed AJ and a club-less Young mucked. Young now has around in chips.
Action Table
One tough table features Ryan Young, Peter "pmarrsouth" Marr and Paul Kobel, who won a NLH WSOP bracelet in 2006.

Ryan Young 44,000
Brandon Lee: 38,500
Ben Fineman: 38,000
Paul Kobel: 37,000
Big Hands:
"Pmarrsouth" Takes Out a Player
The flop came J62 and seat 1 bet 1,000. Peter "pmarrsouth" Marr called and the 5 fell on the turn. After much deliberation, seat 1 bet 4,000 and Marr instantly called. The river brought the 7 and seat 1 thought for a minute then announced he was moving all in. Marr made the call and seat 1 showed J6, but Marr showed Q3 and had rivered the flush. Seat 1 was sent packing and Marr saw his stack grow to around 45,000.
"Rizen" Rising Up The Rankings
Eric "Rizen" Lynch raised to 2,400 preflop and was called by the player in seat 3. The flop came 1074 and action was bet to Lynch, who bet out 3,000 prompting seat 3 to fold. Lynch now has around 22,000 in chips.
Brummelhuis Makes a Great Call
On a KQ10 flop, Michiel Brummelhuis bet 1,200 and was called by seat 1. Brummelhuis bet again, 3,200 on the 4 turn and seat 1 again called. The Q fell on the turn and Brummelhuis checked. Seat 1 bet 2,700 and Brummelhuis looked pained before electing to call. Seat 1 said, "I guess I should've bet more - Ten!" and flipped over the 10 for a pair. Brummelhuis happily turned over K7 for top pair and took the pot.
Ramdin Not Happy
On a J97 flop the player on the button moved all in, having Victor Ramdin covered. Ramdin did not like it. He slammed his hat on the table, amazed that the player made the move. Ramdin went into the tank for several minutes, knocking his stacks of chips over out of frustration. He eventually folded and said that he had aces for the first time today and they were no good. Ramdin is down to around 27,000 in chips.

Event 7 - $2000 NLHE - Filippi Felted Fast
Jun 04, '08
Blinds/Antes: 25-50, moving up to 50-100
Entrants: 1,591 (Approx.)
Eliminations: Amnon Filippi, Jamie Gold, T.J. Cloutier
Notable Hands:
Filippi Felted
On a flop of 542 the player in seat 1 bet 400 and Amnon raised to 1200. Seat 1 moved all in and Filippi called. Seat 1 showed A8 for a made flush while Filippi showed 54 for top two pair. The turn was the 9 and the river is the J, no help to Filippi who was crippled, left with only 400 in chips.
A few hands later on a flop of J98 Filippi moved all in for his last few hundred with 1010, and was called by the player in seat 6, who held QJ. The turn brought the 10, giving Filippi a set, but giving seat 6 the straight to the queen. Filippi needed to pair the board or hit the case 10 to win, or chop the pot with one of the two remaining queens. The river was the 4 and Filippi hits the rail early in the first level.
Morgan Off to a Fast Start
On a board of QJ10, Jordan Morgan bet out 600 and one player called. The 10 came on the turn and Morgan bet 1,175, and his opponent called again. The 3 fell on the river and Morgan bet 1,500, leaving himself with only 600 left behind. His opponent called and Morgan showed KK. His opponent showed 99 and said, "No wonder I couldn't hit the king." With the win, Morgan nearly doubled up to around 8,000 and his opponent was left crippled with just 325.
Yang Doubles Up an Opponent
Jerry Yang and Eric "Rizen" Lynch are seated at the same table and have already tangled in a pot in which neither player took down. Lynch raised to 150 preflop and was called by seat 6 and Yang from late position. The flop came 872 and both Lynch and seat 6 checked. Yang bet out 400, causing Lynch to fold, but seat 5 pushed all in for 575 more. Priced in, Yang called and showed J10. Seat 6 showed 77 for a flopped set and the 3 turn and 2 river did not improve Yang's hand – leaving him with 2,600 in chips.
Laak Vocal Early
Seat 4 raised to 150 preflop, seat 6 called and Phil Laak reraised to 500 total. Seat 4 called and seat 6 folded. The flop came 1042 and seat 4 checked. Laak bet 500 and was called. The K came on the turn and both players checked. The river card was the J and seat 4 checked and Laak bet out 1,000. While seat 4 tanked, Laak told the player that he may have been bluffing but just made a hand. He then told the player whether he'd call or fold, he'd show. The player folded and Laak showed KK for the set.
Tilly Crippled
Jennifer Tilly and another player called a preflop raise to 275 and three players saw a flop of 1010K. The board was checked. The turn was the 8. Tilly bet 600 and was called by both players. The J brought another bet of 1,500. Seat 7 moved all in and seat 10 called. Tilly did not hear seat 10 call and called as well, turning over Q7. Seat 7 showed A2 and seat 10 showed pocket kings for a flopped full house. Tilly was left with just 425.
Shannon Shorr Chipping Up Early
Shannon Shorr raised preflop and had one opponent call. The flop was 74A and Shorr bet 225. He was called and the turn was the 5. After that was checked, the 6 and Shorr bet 475. His opponent folded and Shorr was up to 5,200 at that point.
On the next hand with a board showing 66Q79, Shorr bet 1,100 and was called by an opponent. Shorr showed AQ for two pair with top kicker and his stack improved to 6,400.
Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby Knocks One Out
On a flop of 1073, the player on the button bet 300 and Jared Hamby called from the small blind. The turn was the 9 and the button moved all in. Hamby insta-called with top two pair (109) while the button turned over J10 for top pair with a gut-shot straight draw. The river was the 7, no help to either player as Hamby knocked one out and chipped up to around 6,500.
JC Alvarado Wins Big Pot Uncontested
JC Alvarado raised to 225 from the button and got two callers from the the big blind and the player in seat 4. The flop came K84, and the big blind bet 400. Seat 4 folded his hand while Alvarado raised to 875. The big blind called. The turn was the A and the big blind checked to Alvarado who bet 1,250. The blind called. The river was the 6 and once again, the big blind checked to Alvarado who this time bet 2,000. The big blind thinks for a few minutes before folding. Alvarado rakes a good pot.
Erica Schoenberg Doubles Up
On a flop of J98, seat 1 bet 2,000 and Erica Schoenberg moved all in for 4,500. Seat 1 called and only had her covered by one green (25) chip. Schoenberg showed AJ while seat 1 turned over 108. The turn and river come 46, and Schoenberg doubles up while her opponent is crippled down to one chip.

Big Hands and Storylines:
A Blessing in Disguise
As a result of a table break, Lee Watkinson found himself moved directly to Daniel Negreanu’s right. If that wasn’t bad enough, Phil Ivey also resides at the table. It turned out to be a fortuitous move, however, as Watkinson was soon to double up. Ivey, Watkinson, and Negreanu saw a flop of 976. Ivey checked to Watkinson, who moved all-in for about 20,000. Negreanu made the call and after Ivey folded the two showed their cards:
Watkinson: T8
Negreanu: JJ
Watkinson had flopped perfectly and Negreanu was now drawing incredibly slim. The turn 4 gave Negreanu a flush draw, making Watkinson sweat a little. The river was the 4, fooling Negreanu for a moment, but sealing the pot for Watkinson. The pot took Watkinson up to around 45,000. Negreanu, unphased, still has over 90,000.
“Good Call”
With the board reading JJ3T, Romuald Pycior checked to Michael Binger, who slid out a bet of 4,000. Pycior made a quick call and the dealer flipped the 6. Again Pycior checked, enticing Binger to lay out a bet of 8,500. Pycior thought a bit more carefully this time, but ultimately made the call. Binger whispered, “Good call” and Pycior flipped up his A3 in a none-too-convincing manner. The jacks and threes were best though, and Pycior now has 54,000.
Josephy Runner-Runnered
Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy got his last 10,000 chips in before the flop in a dominating position: his KK against Randy Cherkas’ JJ. The flop was a safe one: 976, but the turn Q gave Cherkas a flush draw. The river was the 3, completing the flush and sending a displeased Josephy out of the Amazon Room.

Table #28 - Chad Brown Eliminated
With the field starting to thin early on here in Day 1A, we are starting to see some semi-stacked tables emerge. Table # 28 is currently home to Chad Brown, Todd Brunson, Eugene katchalov, and Eric "Rizen" Lynch.
On a flop of 966, Chad Brown bets 250 and the player in seat 6 raises to 500. Brown calls. The turn is the J and Brown checks to Seat 6 who bets 250. Brown calls and the river is the 4. Both players check. Brown shows AK for ace-high while Seat 6 turns over 55 two pair. After this hand Brown is left with only 500 in chips.
A few hands later and Seat 6 limps into the pot and Seat 8 raises to 250. Chad Brown reraises all in for a total of 400, Seat 6 folds and Seat 8 calls. Brown shows A9 while Seat 8 turns over AK. The board came 6445k, giving Seat 8 the nut flush and sending Chad Brown home early in level 2.
At the end of the level, Eric Lynch was sitting with about 7,500 while Todd Brunson and Eugene Katchalov had 1,200 and 4,500, respectiveley.
Raymer Rallies
In a limped four way pot, on a flop of AK3, the table checked around to Greg Raymer in the cutoff who bet 250 into the pot of 400. Only the player in seat 7 called before the dealer peeled off the 7. The player in seat 7 checked, Greg Raymer counted out a bet of 500, and the player folded, winning Raymer a pot of 900, putting him at around 3500 in chips.
Eric Froehlich wins a small pot
With a board showing 3610, Froehlich bet and everyone folded. His stack is now hovering around 6,500.
John Phan loses a checked pot
Phan checked his option on the big blind and saw a board of Q2JK3. Every street was checked and Phan could not beat seat 5's A8. His stack is now at 2,100.
Todd Brunson low on chips
Brunson lost an 800 pot when his A10 could not hold up against his opponent's KQ offsuit. His stack is wavering at around 1,000.
A-J crushes A-J
On a flop of A57 a player in early position bet 300 and Rohn Shutsky raised to 900 and was called. The turn brought the J and the player first to act checked, Shutsky bet 1,600 and the first player raised all-in. Shutsky called and showed AJ for top two pair. The other player turned over AJ, also for top two pair. The river brought the 8 and Shutsky pumped his fist as his flush won the pot. He's now sitting around 7,200
Ivey tangles with "The Master"
With the flop showing JA3, Phil Ivey bet 300 and was called by Men Nguyen. The 5 came on the turn and both players checked. Ivey bet 700 on a 4 river and Nguyen folded. Ivey now has around 15,000 in chips.

Slow Hour Two
Jun 29, '07
Despite the size of the field, the pace in the early levels of todays event is not quite as fast as would be expected. Perhaps the extra thousand chips that players get in comparison to a $1,500 event do make a real difference.
Table 75 broke early in the second level to make room for the restart of the $5,000 short-handed event, scattering Amnon Filippi, Andrew Black and Johnny Chan throughout the field. Filippi placed fourth last night in the H.O.R.S.E. event and is already back in the game. He joined tournament veteran T.J. Cloutier and internet-turned-live pro Eric Lynch, creating another tough table. William Thorsson joined Amir Vahedi and Dave Stann at another stacked table.
Make sure to check back for hourly updates here at Cardplayer.com as the day goes on and the pace picks up.
