We're Making Card Player More Enjoyable for Youby Barry Shulman | Published: Aug 16, 2002 |

Any good business tries to improve no matter how mighty it perceives its strengths to be. Card Player is no exception.
During my five-and-a-half-year stint with Card Player, we have been blessed with a more impressive list of writers each and every year. Now that Poker Digest has closed its doors, we have been given the opportunity to review the talent of its former writers to see who may contribute to making Card Player even stronger and more enjoyable for our readers.
As was announced in the last issue, we have welcomed back Andy Glazer to the Card Player family. Also returning to Card Player, beginning this issue, is Lou Krieger and his popular "On Strategy" column. Additionally, Alan Schoonmaker ("The Psychology of Poker") and Rolf Slotboom ("Ace Speaks") will be joining us on a regular basis in upcoming issues.
In order to accommodate these outstanding writers, we had to make some difficult decisions. A couple of writers are no longer with us, and some will be writing in alternate issues or periodically instead of in each issue. This will provide a greater variety of material and more viewpoints for you our readers.
I even had to give myself my first pink slip ever! This will be my last regular column. I will write periodically when I think there is something important for me to say.
It gives me great pleasure as my final act in this column to announce that the legendary Mad Genius himself, Mike Caro, will be rejoining us as editor at large. Since Mike didn't want to undertake the burden of having to produce a column each issue, we've come up with something even better. He will contribute articles, research, and even short stories as he finds the time. But we believe his work is so important that, additionally, he will be given his own eight-page section in Card Player four times annually to present poker concepts, charts, the latest research, visual tells, or whatever else he deems interesting or important.
Although he opted not to resume his regular column, he'll be doing something even more appealing. In each issue of Card Player, he'll write a few words about a poker concept or topic, and then do an exclusive, fully expanded audio lecture on www.CardPlayer.com. These audios will be tailored specifically to Card Player readers, and you'll hear them on our website months before they're available anywhere else. If you haven't heard Mike Caro speak on poker before or haven't been able to attend his seminars, now - by this special arrangement - you'll be able to listen in every two weeks.
Welcome aboard, everyone. Never has so much poker-writing talent been assembled in one place. What a treat for our readers.
