The Highlights

On his attitude towards downswings…

“2014 was definitely a rough year. I had a lot of momentum, and [had been] doing really well in 2013, but it seemed like it was one of those years where I would get close, find good spots, and then lose a big flip. I was on the wrong side of the coolers in the big spots. Just one of those years. I was still going about things the same way. I feel like I never really let results affect my decisions or how I play. There’s a lot of variance, lots of ups and downs in poker.”

On his early years as a gambler…

“My first summer in Vegas, I was 20. We had a putting green in the backyard, and we would make these crazy bets… Or we would bet on the pool table, $5,000. Stupid stuff. Dice games or Yahtzee, whatever. We did one where if you rolled a Yahtzee on your first roll, you would win 50 times [your bet]. I had won the Absolute Poker $1,000 event that day for $30,000 or something… and somehow ended up being down for the day.”

On what he considers to be his biggest accomplishments in poker…

“It wasn’t the biggest score of my career (Note: it’s currently no. 15), but winning the Bellagio Cup main event in 2013 was… I’ve certainly had bigger scores, but that was the first big main event that I won. It turned around a big downswing. That one, or the Aria $25,000 that I won in December of 2015. That was my first high roller win, and kind of started my 2016 run.” ♠
