Italy is one of the top-performing countries in the world when it comes to tournament poker. In fact, the country is tied with Israel for the ninth most World Series of Poker bracelets won with 24.

The Southern European powerhouse of food and culture has produced many top poker players, with Dario Sammartino chief among them. Sammartino’s runner-up showing in the 2019 WSOP main event earned him $6 million, his second seven-figure payday. A couple of years before making it down to heads-up in the big dance he finished third in the $111,1111 WSOP One Drop high roller for $1.6 million.

After several close calls, the Nova Gorica native finally secured his first bracelet this year by taking down the $2,500 Omaha and stud eight-or-better mixed event. He now has more than $17.4 million in career cashes.

Mustapha Kanit has recorded nearly $12.8 million in tournament cashes across 162 recorded scores. Like Sammartino, he also has recorded multiple seven-figure paydays so far in his career. His largest cash came in a runner-up finish in the 2016 European Poker Tour Grand Final €100,000 high roller, banking $1.7 million for that impressive run. Nearly a year before that, Kanit took down a €50,000 event at the same festival in Monte Carlo for just over $1 million.

Next up is Gianluca Speranza with more than $5.1 million in career cashes. The bracelet winner’s largest payday came when he took down the 2022 EPT Monte Carlo €25,000 high roller for nearly $900,000. Enrico Camosci, who made two big final tables at this year’s WSOP Europe festival, is ranked fourth with nearly $4.9 million. Four-time bracelet winner Max Pescatori rounds out the top five with more than $4.4 million.
WSOP Europe main event winner Simone Andrian also surged inside the top 10 thanks to his $1.4 million victory in Rozvadov. ♠
