The Bellagio, NASCAR and Dale Jarrett

I arrived at the Bellagio for the WPT Championship preliminary events with high expectations. I played the 2k and 2.5k events the past two days without much success. The 2k event went pretty quickly for me. Every time I opened a pot I was re-raised and couldn't defend. Finally as I became short stacked I raised in the cutoff with A10 and was called by the BB. The flop came ten high and I pushed. He called with JJ. No help coming and I was done for the day. I then went on to have a terrible cash game session. I got in about 4 big situations over the course of the day and each time the money went in on the flop or turn with the lead, and each time I lost. Kind of frustrating, but that's poker. The 2.5k event the following day was only slightly better. I made it through about 70% of the field and ran into AA with AQ when I was getting short. It was a really card dead day. In 6 hours of play the biggest pair I saw was pocket tens, and although I had AK three times I lost two of them. I am going to take a few days off and hopefully get them on the next one. I am looking forward to the main event. I am entered into it from the Borgata win so it feels like a free roll. I will probably play a couple of single table satellites for the cash.

Before I get to the main event I have an interesting event with NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett in Scottsdale. I was invited to play in a golf event. Our team consists of a regional NASCAR poker tournament winner, a producer from the Speed Channel in addition to Dale and me. I hope I can make an adequate showing on the golf course. I hear there is a lot of poker being played on the NASCAR circuit, maybe I can get invited to the cash games. What would be more exciting would be a chance to take some laps in one of their cars. I have always wanted to take one of those driving schools where you get to drive a race car.
