Obama Wins The Nobel? David Letterman and My Top Ten List, Jon and Kate, Halls and Pedophilia, I Can’t Get Out of Jamaica Fast Enough!

I rarely watch news on TV, but I’m on vacation in Jamaica and when in the room have had the TV on sometimes and have watched things that have really turned my stomach and feel like I need to mention them here.

First of all why all the excitement about David Letterman having sex with his staff? Anyone who is naive enough to think this kind of stuff isn’t going on a regular basis all over the place should be a conservative senator from Nevada who speaks out against this type of behavior, oh yeah he was doing it too. So in the spirit of David Letterman, here is my Top Ten List of recent sex scandals:

10. David Letterman, really just honorable mention on the list, I always say as long as you are willing to pay the legal fees and settlements, what’s wrong with a little sexual harassment these days?
9. Senator John Ensign, affair with a young married campaign staff member, Ensign’s parents later paid the couple $96,000 as a “gift.”

8. U.S. senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart, whose political career ended when photographs were released of him with Donna Rice on his boat, Monkey Business, I’d like to know who named that boat.

7. South Carolina Gov. Sanford ran away to Argentina to be with his mistress, at least his wife stood by him, for a little while and the mistress was hot.
6. N.J. Gov. James E. McGreevey. The married father of two daughters, McGreevey resigned after he admitted to having a homosexual affair with his Homeland Security Advisor, I wonder what his homeland security drills consisted of?
5. Senator John Edwards, cheating on his then cancer stricken wife and now has a “love child.” What can you expect from a guy that sued so many doctors for malpractice that wasn’t even malpractice.

4. Florida Congressman Mark Foley for sex with teenaged boys also likes texting.
3. Elliot Spitzer is a real beauty, went after people for sex with call girls as a US prosecutor, and then is doing the same thing himself.
2. President Bill Clinton and Monica in the Oval Office, well technically according to him, fellatio isn’t sex.
1. Idaho Congressman Larry Craig arrested for lewd conduct in an airport restroom, after confessing, tried to recant, but that failed. This is so bad I cant even comment, trying to pick up guys in a men’s room, yuck!

I also saw that Hall’s ad, which takes place in a college dorm while parents are moving their son in. The mother has what could best be described as “a moment” with the roommate while sucking on a Hall’s. Looks like pedophilia in the making, but you decide, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6MNvg40x3g

Just a word about this Jon and Kate thing; who cares! (I guess that’s two words) I don’t even know who they, and would like to keep it that way.

Now I’ll get to what disturbs me most about all this, aren’t there real issues that we should concern ourselves with? Now I’ll admit I spew some pretty thick bullshit now and again in this blog, but hey it’s a poker blog, so why not. I’m watching CNN and seeing continuous garbage news about nonsense. I guess it’s all about ratings and market share, with responsible journalism being thrown out the window. On one of the major news channels the Jon and Kate thing came across the bottom of the screen as “breaking news.” Maybe Hillary Clinton could intervene and help here, oops I forgot, as Secretary of State she is in charge of foreign affairs and these are domestic.

What about the Surgeon General? We wound up with a chubby Surgeon General who prior to accepting the appointment was the nutritional advisor to Burger King. Looks like she might have been doing a little too much taste testing. Lets not forget that CNN correspondent Sanjay Gupta turned the job down, that would have been another beautiful choice, so was she the best Obama could do? Having an obese Surgeon General with her past would be like appointing a Secretary of the Treasury that didn’t pay his taxes, oh yeah that’s right he didn’t. I have to admit I was hopeful about the change in leadership, but it looks like more of the same from a different direction.

As long as I’m of on a roll, I am somewhat confused about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I supported Obama, more of an anti-Bush and no viable alternative support, but come on; is it possible to have better candidates than McCain, Hilary, Obama, and the like? Now I respect McCain’s contribution to America, but didn’t feel he was the man to lead us. Hilary I don’t even respect, so I was left with Obama by default. I’m not apologizing for voting the way I did, I’m explaining, and complaining that because it’s almost ridiculous that these are the candidates they give us to choose from.

Back to the Nobel Prize, I am really shocked, especially when you realize he was nominated for it only a few days into office. The explanations said they wanted to encourage him and that he had good intentions. Well we all know what good intentions are good for. What should we expect from a peace prize established by a guy whose fortune came from the patent on dynamite? Perhaps it was a bad year and no one was more deserving of the peace prize? That must have been it, kind of like the way he eased into office. All I know is if I were Obama, I’d give the money from the prize to the families of all those soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Interesting that you can increase support of a war in Afghanistan (which I do support) and win the Nobel Peace Prize. That really says something, I’m just not sure what.

I am writing this while in the airport returning from a week in Jamaica. We had a good time, spending a lot of it in and under the water, sailing, swimming and SCUBA. The reason I have digressed is to share with you the lousy experience I just had with Air Jamaica. We arrived at the airport with our bag 2 pounds over the limit, and although we had only one bag between the two of us, we had to either pay $75 or take stuff out of the bag. We elected to remove a couple of items. As we started to they said to move back to the line. It took all of 6 seconds to remove the stuff from the bag, but the gate agent got nasty. Finally with a supervisor the situation was resolved, although I’m sure my bag is on the way to Cleveland, like in the Seinfeld episode. Anyway going through security, everyone is taking soda and water through, and me they stop and take it away.

Next, getting on the aircraft I am stopped and pulled out of the line by two uniformed security officers. If you saw those they were letting past with no search versus me, it was definitely a case of racial profiling, let’s pick on the white, clean-cut guy. They proceed to search my carry on and my person. This was no little search. It took a while and they hassled me about everything in my bag, including a prescription medication, my computer air-card and Bose headset of all things. Next a woman searched me, and I have to admit I kind of liked it, but that’s not the point. They were so nasty to me. With tourism being one of the principal revenue sources for Jamaica, it might occur to them to be nice. I travel a lot, and I have to say this was one of the worst travel experiences I have had. Believe me, I understand the need for security but this was too much, but hey, at least they skipped the body cavity search, so I had that going for me.
