Someone left the door wide open at the WSOP

In the PLO/PLH event I played yesterday I was surprised when the stack of a player that didn’t show up after the first two levels was picked up on the first break. I was much more than surprised when I asked what had happened to it and Michael Binger told me the WSOP had started allowing players to unregister after the events had started and that if they registered and didn’t show up after the first two levels they would be picked up and have their money refunded.
I am not sure who came up with this idea or what exactly the reason for the change was, but it is leaving the door wide open for tremendous player abuses.

Firstly and most obviously a player can scope out his table from the rail think it looks pretty tough and decide to wait for the 5pm or next days event. This is bad but not the worst of it.
Secondly, a floorman confirmed that they did this in the 6 handed event also. Can you imagine a player looking at his table in a 6 handed event and seeing all pros including 2 or 3 he is friends with. He could call his friends cel from the rail and say “see that empty stack, that’s me. If you guys give me a little piece of you in this event I won’t show up and you can blind my stack off for two levels and then get a liveone to take the seat.” Then ofcourse there are shootout events, even worse.
I am not sure why this was done but this open door needs to be closed, because it will be used untill it is.
