All Good Things Come To An End

I feel sad to announce that this is going to be my last blog as a Boylepoker sponsored player. I haven’t played any poker now since the Amsterdam Master Classics at the end of November and as usual after a break, I feel a lot better about things.

Well, at least I did until I found that I’d be without a sponsor for the year.

We had a couple of meetings over Christmas and weren’t able to agree terms for the coming year, so we’re going to go our separate ways. Everything has been completely amicable and I totally understand and agree with Boyle’s position on the matter, although I still can’t help but feel a bit sad about it, after all the good times I had wearing the logo.

My results over the last year have been terrible, but I think that considering the three big tourneys that I won wearing the Boyles’ colours in my first year, that I’ve been good value for them overall, and hopefully they feel the same way. I made some very good friends in the office that I’ll keep in touch with for a long time, and I’ve only got good things to say about the company and the people who work there.

They have a great team behind the scenes in Lisa, Gerry and Ciaran, and with Nicky and John they have two of the biggest personalities in Irish Poker still representing them, and I wish everyone in Boyles every success in the future.

Sad as I am to be leaving, it may be that it was the right time. I know I can do a lot better than I have been, and maybe a change could be just what I need. I’m going to concentrate on playing some online games over the next month or so and see if I can grind out a profit, as much as for a test of discipline as anything else. It’s expensive enough going on the live tournament trail so if I’m not able to secure a deal with anyone else, then I’ll have to cut back a bit on my tournament schedule, but I’ve got no plans of giving it up just yet.

I’d also like to thank everyone who followed my highs and lows (in that order) on Boylepokerblog.com, and everyone who offered messages of support from time to time. If anyone is interested you can still follow it on martysmyth.net or Cardplayer.com.

Thanks to everyone and GL for now.
