How I Won The Irish Poker Open Part III

Check out parts I and II of Niall Smyth’s story.

Day three was the least eventful day for me. The table was very aggro with the bubble burst. People wanted to get in a position to either win the tournament or go home. I tightened up a bit and tried to pick my spots. I lose a pot early calling a short stack’s shove on the button with K-9 diamonds and he has K-Q. A few hands later I’ve got A-K under the gun. I raise it up and call an all-in versus A-Q.

The day was basically a tale of 2 hands which happened in one orbit. I had A-A the first time against Marty Smyth. He raises, I reraise and after he thinks for a short time he pushes and I make an easy call. He tables 3-3. The flop comes A-4-2, don’t you hate it when you flop a set and there is still danger on the flop? Anyway the turn brings the other ace and puts the hand to bed.

In a hand soon after I’ve A-Q and raise it up pre-flop. There is an over shove from a guy down the end of the table who was looking tired. He has made this move 3 times in the last hour so after a little think I call and he tables K-7. I flop an ace and get no sweat.

I ended up bursting the final table bubble by getting lucky against Andy Black. He has been short all day and wasn’t getting any cards to play. It gets folded round to him in the small blind and he pushes.I look down at A-5 and make the call, Andy shows A-7 hearts. I flop a 5 and hit the front. The turn brings a heart giving him a flush draw, he misses the river and we are down to the final table. I’d had a great laugh with Andy whenever he was at my table but I was still glad to see him out
