One Year As A Poker Proby Niall Smyth | Published: Mar 21, '12 |
Well it’s been a while since my last blog this is down to not going deep in any live tournaments (the whole two I’ve played in four months) and my chronic and disabling procrastination. I swear one of these days I’m going to get help for my procrastination problem. Not really sure where i’m going with this blog right now just going to do what online players do best and start clicking buttons.
The Paddy Power Poker Irish Open is just around the corner and time seems to be moving at the speed of light, its hard for me to imagine that a whole year nearly past but I have to admit that year has been a lot of fun. The highlight of the lot was a month in Las Vegas with my family and playing in the main event this just pips Killarney which would be best described as the most profitable four-day bender I’ve ever had. I blame the two-week hangover for not coming first.
The biggest news for the Irish Open are some of the big names that are making the trip for it this year, Daniel Neagreau, Puis Heinz and of course Ireland’s first Novemember Niner Eoghan O’Dea – not that he has too far to travel. I’ve read some debate about weather big names add anything to the tournament. Personally I think it’s great but I’ve always been a bit of a fanboy anyways and anything that can drum up more interest and excitment has to be a good thing. I was recently told to do my best to slowroll Phil Helmuth if I get the chance with 7-2. Say what you like but high profile players add more interest and imagination.
I decided to see if i could make a living from poker after the Irish Open the good news for me at least is i turned a five-year losing streak into a winning one and increased my volume from 350 games life time to 1,137. Hardly epic volume for an aspiring poker pro.
I think my main problem is I still believe variance is something mythical like the tooth fairy or evolution. After even a two day losing streak I tend to play really bad or get unmotivated and not play for a few weeks.
