My WSOP kicks off tomorrow with $40k event

What's happenin' everyone? It's been a while since I posted. We had a really good time on the boat trip. It was complete with an overdose of alcohol, some really good BBQing, speedboating, wakeboarding, tubing, swimming, flip cup and much much more. I'm sure it will continue to be an annual trip for us. When we arrived back in Vegas Friday we stayed at basebaldy's house up in the hills. We somehow had enough energy in us to go and degen and drink at the new M casino. It was a semi-rare appearance in the pit and it didn't go so well, but we also didn't buy in too deep :) Saturday afternoon we met up with our landlord and got into our new condo. It's an insane penthouse near the top of one of the major highrises here in town. We're still getting used to how everything works around here. Saturday night Mike and I had a pretty crazy night that started with attending UFC 98. It was a pretty decent card that culminated with Machida knocking out Evans in the main event. Afterwards, we decided to roam the strip like tourists. Sunday we woke up and headed down to the community pool because there was some sort of Memorial Day kickoff party. We were down there for several hours and returned to the pool Sunday and today. There are some really great amenities at this place. After hitting the pool Monday we joined a bunch of other poker players and got a suite type thing at the Palazzo sportsbook to watch game 4 of the LAL/DEN series. How good have the Conference Finals been this year? Sick. The last couple of days we've been mostly relaxing. It feels nice not to drink at all after partying so hard so many days in a row. Adam and I are both gonna play the $40,000 event that begins tomorrow. It's going to be a really fun event, and I'm incredibly psyched. It will obviously be the most expensive tournament I've ever bought into, but I belong in the field and I can pretty easily afford it, so why not? I have 34 events on my schedule which realistically means I'll play some 25-27 events with day 2s and time overlaps factored in. I played 21, 22, and 21 events, respectively in the 2006-2008 WSOPs. It's hard to believe that this is already my 4th World Series of Poker. It seems like just yesterday I was learning to play the game. Hopefully I can escape with my first career bracelet and atleast one nice score this summer. It's tournament poker though and anything can happen, so I'm going to do my best to stay as professional and as focused as possible. I'll be playing just about everyday. One of the tough things about the WSOP is that all of the tournaments are grouped so tightly together that if you lose your confidence for just a day it can snowball. Before you know it you've bricked some 15 straight tournaments. It's an expensive summer as I'm playing 9 events that have a buy in of $5,000+. Additionally, I'll have quite a bit more action because of some investments I'm making in players. Finally, I stand to win ~$35,000 more if I can win a bracelet in a hold 'em event because of some bets that I made against other players (but have to fade them winning of course). I will update my chipcount for every event at the end of every hour of play beginning with the event tomorrow. You can find those updates at my twitter page, twitter.com/shannonshorr. As always, I'll also have blog recaps at the conclusion of each event. Wish me luck!  SS
