Brandon Dosch won the HPT Shooting Star titleBrandon Dosch held just three percent of the chips in play when he reached the final table of the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) $1,000 main event at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN.

But he still had a chip and a chair. Against the odds, the Fargo-native picked up some big hands and even bigger pots on his way to winning the HPT Shooting Star title.

In the end, Dosch was heads up with Ryan Botner, also of Fargo, North Dakota. The final hand came when Dosch’s A-4 found a river ace to pair up and top Botner’s flopped pair of fives.

In his first ever HPT event, Dosch completed his remarkable comeback to outlast 145 other players and claim the $40,601 first-place prize.

2004 World Series of Poker main event champion Greg Raymer participated in the event, finishing 41st.

Here’s a look at the final 6 finishers:

1. Brandon Dosch — $40,601 1,000
2. Ryan Botner — $20,300 750
