Craig Bergeron at the WSOPA former poker pro was arrested last week and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. Wayne County prosecutors allege that Craig Bergeron, of Saline, Michigan, shot and killed 37-year-old Tommy Ireland on Dec. 23.

Authorities say Bergeron then fled the scene, but was later arrested by police. Few details are known about the crime, but police allege Bergeron shot Ireland with a rifle at a home on the east side of Detroit. Officers were dispatched to the scene about 8:40 p.m.

Police also allege that he later assaulted someone in the city of St. Clair Shores after the alleged murder. The felony charges against Bergeron indicate that he at least has some previous criminal record.

The 35-year-old has more than $1 million in live tournament winnings and was also won considerably at online poker playing under the name ‘hu4rollz.’ His poker record includes a fourth-place finish in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in 2012 for $212,976.

He also won a World Series of Poker Circuit ring in 2011. In 2010, Bergeron finished fourth in a European Poker Tour event for $312,853. However, he hasn’t had a major tournament cash since 2019.

Friends and family gathered to host a vigil last Thursday night to honor Ireland. Ashley Ireland, the victim’s sister, said the family did not know Bergeron and had no clue as to why he might shoot her brother.

“We’re looking for answers, and we’re looking for justice,” she told CBS News Detroit. “We don’t know anything right now.”
