This past Saturday, Nebraska native Brett Schwertley won the largest World Series of Poker Circuit event in history.
The 27-year-old semi-pro outlasted a field of 1,611 in event no. 1 ($350 no-limit hold’em) at the Regional Championship at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. He won $77,438 in prize money and the gold ring.
The $350 buy-in tournament was the largest poker event ever held in the seven-year history of the WSOP Circuits.
The final action in the battle between Schwertley and runner-up Edward Corrado came on board reading K Q 3 6 7. All the money went in with Corrado holding the K 2, but the pair was no good when Schwertley exposed the Q 3 for a flush.
