Gus Hansen has won the FullTilt.com Poker Million IX in a year that has seen the pro also win his first World Series of Poker bracelet.
Hansen beat Tony Bloom in a short heads up after the strongest final table in the tournament’s history which played out in London and was aired live on SKY Sports 2 and HD2 yesterday evening.
With a slight chip lead, Hansen raised, Bloom moved all in, and Hansen called. Hansen flipped over A-8 and Bloom showed A-6. An 8 came down on the flop and Hansen stayed ahead to be crowned champion.
The rest of the final-table line up included Gary Peniket, Seth Webber, Patrik Antonius, Barny Boatman, Howard Lederer, and James Bord.
After his win, Hansen said, “I do have a very aggressive image and I got reraised a couple of times when I shouldn’t have played so I slowed down a bit and got my reward with some luck. But I got put in some tough spots and I made the right decisions so I’m pleased with how I played.”
Hansen now adds a handsome $1 million to his lifetime earnings.
