The 2024 World Poker Tour World Championship gets underway this week at Wynn Las Vegas. This year’s series features several notable changes from recent years, including the decision to forego a guarantee for the $10,400 buy-in no-limit hold’em WPT World Championship. This change comes after the record-setting $40,000,000 guarantee placed in 2023 was not met despite the fact that the event drew 3,835 entries for the largest field in WPT main tour history. Even with that impressive turnout, the tournament had an overlay of more than $2.4 million.

This year’s WPT WC is set for Dec. 14-21, with three starting flights allowing a single entry available per player per flight. After that, there will be five more days of combined-field action, culminating with the crowning of this year’s champion.

The $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Championship also returns for a third time, The $5 million guaranteed tournament is slated to run from Dec. 8-14.

The headlining new offering for 2024 is a record-setting $5,000,000 freeroll tournament, the largest of its kind. The event will award $1,000,000 to its eventual champion.

The freeroll event will run from Dec. 13-14, and will award 100 seats into the $10,400 championship event.

“We have crafted an incredible schedule for this year’s World Championship, featuring more than 60 tournaments and satellites,” said Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas. “I’m confident that the loyal fanbase of Wynn Las Vegas and WPT, as well as more than 500 qualifiers and satellite winners, will make the 2024 WPT World Championship another rousing success.”

“Our return to Wynn Las Vegas this December is equipped with another monumental investment into the development and growth of not only the WPT World Championship but the poker industry as a whole,” said WPT CEO and President Adam Pliska. “In celebration of the launch of ClubWPT Gold, we’re aiming for another first for the poker world with the largest freeroll ever offered.”
