Jason MercierAs the new year approaches, Card Player caught up with some of the big names on the international poker circuit to find out how their 2010 went and what they hope for in 2011.

Team PokerStars Pro member Jason Mercier extended his results list even further this year with some very juicy 2010 scores including first in event no. 42 of the World Championship of Online Poker for $435,862, and slightly more for the number one spot of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Mohegan Sun High Roller ($475,000). On the heels of 2011, Mercier spoke to Card Player about his year and his wishes for the future.

Rebecca McAdam: How was your 2010?

Jason Mercier: 2010 was great. I had a lot of fun travelling the tour again and meeting some new friends along with enjoying time with the ones I already have.

RM: Poker-wise, was it an up or down year?

JM: Definitely an up year.

RM: What was your best moment of the year?

JM: Winning the NAPT high roller shootout at Mohegan Sun.

RM: Worst moment of the year?

JM: Flying my parents out for NAPT LA final table when I was 2 of 8 in chips and finishing seventh.

RM: Best hand of 2010 ⎯ if you can remember!

JM: 3-3 versus Sam Stein’s A-J in NAPT Mohegan Sun all in preflop for 98 percent of the chips in play… board ran out J-6-2-4-5.

RM: Was there anything major you learned about your game this year?

JM: I learned that if I put my mind to learning a new game, I can not only learn it, but become very good at it.

RM: Have you planned any New Year’s Resolutions?

JM: Haven’t come up with them yet… something along the lines of exercising more and eating better.

RM: Have you any goals for 2011?

JM: Make more money, win more tournaments.

RM: What are you looking forward to the most in the new year?

JM: PCA!!!

RM: Have you any predictions of any kind for the new year?

JM: I will win a WPT!
