Over 2,200 needy children and their families were given the gift of Christmas in Los Angeles last week. Working with assistance from the Rio Hondo Boys and Girls Club, Rotary Club, Bell Gardens Merchants and Commerce Association, HSA and Lions Club, the Bicycle Casino and its 1,600 employees did their part make sure the area’s in need children could still enjoy the holidays during these hard times.
Casino managing partner Haig Kelegian was proud of the team’s efforts. “This year was particularly inspiring and uplifting to everyone. It’s rewarding to see our Bike family rally and take such good care of these kids. Even with the struggling economy and the challenges we all face together as a business and individually, their enthusiasm and passion make us proud and serves to remind us what the holiday season is really all about.”
The Christmas party featured balloon animals, face painting, games and entertainment. Each child was able to make a personal visit to Santa Claus and received a gift-wrapped toy and a keepsake photo of their experience.
Kelley O’Hara, Director of Marketing added her thoughts. “For 27 years, the Bicycle Casino has taken great pride in helping our Bell Gardens community in any way that we can. Hosting the holiday festivities here, especially knowing that the economy has hit our community hard, allows us to share some joy with the children and their families.”
Bad weather and heavy rain almost ruined the event, but the Bike’s team was quick to offer up a solution, moving the festivities into the new Event Center. Casino Manager Zaven Esmaili was impressed with the speedy fix. “The event went off without a hitch and no one seemed to notice that the pony rides, petting zoo and carnival rides were missing this year. Our team members seamlessly made the transition from outdoor carnival to inside Christmas party.”
In addition to the Christmas party, Bicycle Casino employees went out of their way to visit disabled children as the Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center. The employees dressed as popular children’s characters and brought toys to the many children stuck inside the hospital over the holidays.
Casino CEO Hashem Minaiy was happy with his employees and their effort to provide some cheer to the less fortunate. “Our team members are extremely generous with their time and effort during the holiday season. Who they are and what they stand for really defines us as a company. They give to our customers and they give to our community. These events always bring us together.”
