Viktor Blom v. Dan Cates in SuperStar ShowdownThe Pair of Nosebleed Regulars will Duel this Sunday |

On Sunday Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. ET, Team PokerStars Pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom will face off against Dan “w00ki3z” Cates in the third installment of the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown.
The game will be 2,500 hands played across four $50-$100 no-limit hold’em tables, and the winner of the SuperStar Showdown is the player who shows either a profit after 2,500 hands or wins all of their opponent’s match bankroll.
Cates and Blom have some history at the nosebleed stakes. The Maryland native was one of Blom’s victims late in 2009, when the then mysterious Swede was in the midst of one of the most historic runs in the history of poker. Cates suffered a huge setback in his poker career at the time, losing $500,000 in an intense heads-up match.
“When I lost $500,000 to Isildur1 and lost $90,000 the next day, the thought, ‘oh sh-t, I might go broke,’ started running through my mind because that was a huge chunk of my bankroll at the time,” Cates said. “I took a few days off after that. Other than that, I haven’t been in danger of going broke for a very long time.”
Last Friday, Cates, who was up about $5.5 million online in 2010, got some revenge against Blom. The pair engaged in a long battle that ended with Cates in the black about $40,000. Despite the win, Cates is still down significantly lifetime versus Blom.
The battle on Sunday should be loaded with trash talk. During the session this past Friday, Blom called his opponent’s play a “joke,” and at one point said the following: i play this session untill i bust u or u quit.
