Officials have warned Chinese poker players to take care when playing cards over the holiday season as a survey found up to 20 percent of playing cards in the country contained excessive amounts of formaldehyde.
The China Post reports that the cards were randomly tested by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection and five out of 30 exceeded the safe level and could cause skin allergies. Formaldehyde is also believed to be a leading cause of cancer.
The manufacturers of the toxic playing cards have been told to recall them or face a fine.
