Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers took full advantage of Full Tilt Poker’s multi-entry tournament format on Monday.
The poker pro outlasted a field of 2,404 entrants in the $1K Monday for an outright win of $490,000. Remarkably, Sowers finished in ninth place as well, to take an additional $28,000 from the $2 million guaranteed monster.
Sowers was able to record the double final table cash by having two entries (of the six he purchased) remaining at the final two tables. When the nine-handed table was formed, Sowers’ chip stacks were merged, per the rules of multi-entry events, and the now deleted entry was credited with a ninth place finish.
As Full Tilt explains in its multi-entry frequently asked questions page: “Say you have two entries remaining on two tables in a nine-handed tournament that pays the top 18 finishers. The final table is reached and your two entries are merged. The merged entry will be considered to have finished in ninth place for that tournament and receive the payout amount for that position.”
With one of Sowers’ stacks absorbed, the remaining players endured a lengthy final table battle, which eventually came to a heads-up match between KagM7F7 and the North Carolina native. The duel was all Sowers, as he finished off his opponent when his A 6 came from behind against the A J.
Sowers increased his career tournament earnings to $4.6 million with the win, while fourth-place finisher Alex “Kadabra” Keating moved into first place in Card Player’s 2011 Online Player of the Year race (OPOY).
Here are the final results:
1. Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers — $490,296
